M. Nesbit at College Park last Saturday evening, with J. D. Cassard im the chair, and Geo. E. Loweree, secre- tary. The following members and guests were present: 8. W. Beall, A. J. Bennett, Luther Brashears, J. D. Cassard, W. P. Davis, Dr. R. 5. Hill, Geo. E. Loweree, F. M. Magruder, D. M. Nesbit, W. 8. Powell, Jehn Snowden, Wm. Snowden, Capt. Sil- vester, Profs. Brinkley and Robinson, Drs. Owens and Eversfield, E. A. Fuller and W. Brooke Hunter. The committee on inspec- tion, consisting of Messrs. Luther Bra- shears, S. W. Beall and John Snowden, made a@ thorough inspection of the hos’ farm and reported that the crops, stock and gen- eral appearance and management of the farm were excellent and weil worthy to be followed as an exam>le by the other mem- lers of tne club. The host then read a pa- per on the regular question, viz: “Co-opera- tion in Selling.” As a remedy for the exist- ing difficulties under which the farmers labor, Mr. Nesbit suggested a plan of co- cperaticn, among which the following were the leading features: First, an incorporated company managed by the stockholders through an executive committee and a su- perintendent; second, a depet at Washington accessible, if possible, to the cars of all rail- roads entering the city as well as to teams; third, arrangements with railroads for daily produce trains at @uitable hours; fourth, commissions on sales sufficient to cover all exper ‘The paper stated that the Baltt- nore Ohio railroad would carry the rxiuce for G cents 7 ton, and that Mr. Yays, the superintentent, had promised to un @ train on schedule time. In referring © the 5 street market, Mr. Nesbit said in is paper that it afforded shelter to neither man, horse nor produce, all were exposed, and when the rain or snow became unendur- able, or the work at home could be neglect- ed no longer, the farmer had to take the erab’s price, perhaps a day's wages for man and team, for the hauling of his load. The expense of hauling to Washington was 83 1-8 per cent of sales recorded, while the expense under the new system would not exceed 15 per cent. After considerable dis- cussion of the question, during which the commission chants were severely scored for taking advantage of the farmer, the club appointed a committee, consisting of D. M. Nesbit, Dr, R. S. Hill and S. W. Beall, to in- vestigate the subject of agency, and make @ report at the next meeting. A resolution offered by Dr. Hill was passed extending a vote of congratulation to the president and directors of the Maryland Agricultural Col- lege, and the director and his assistants of the Maryland Agricultural College experi- ment station for the exhibits and instruc- tive addresses at the several fairs in this state, the same being of very great value to the farmers. The club decided to hold its next meeting at the residence of F. M. Magruder, at Sunnyside, on the 13th proxi- mo at 3:30 p.m. The questions selected for discussion wer ‘Will it pay the farmers cf county to use lime?” “What is the best kind and what is the best method of application?’ Before the business meeting an elaborate supper was provided by the host, Misses Jessie and Nannie Nesbit and Miss Hutchinson looking to the comfort of the guests. ‘The colored camp meeting in the Spa woods, at Bladensburg, closed last night after six weeks of continued success, A large crowd was present during the entire day, notwithstanding the intense heat. Rev. Mr. Bryant, the silver-tongued orator, preached at 1l a. m. and 3 p. m., and Mrs. Lucy Williams at 8 p. m. Messrs. Burda Cully and Dan Johnson deserve considerable credit for the energy they have displayed in managing these meetings. Zack. Galvin was arrested by Bailiff!
