Question Whether the Actunt Words of Pilate Are Known at the Present Day. The recent republication in The Star of a story of the existence of a plate, on which ‘was engraved what was reported to be the original death sentence of Jesus Christ, has given rise to a great deal of talk among Biblical students about Washington. One result of this is that The Star has received a number of communications on the sub- ject. One, disputing the authenticity of the plate, was printed last Saturday, and since then three more have come, in which at least considerable research is evident. The first of these goes into the origin of the story of the death sentence of Christ. It is written by Mr. Fred. J. Braendle of Falls Church, Va., and in the course of his article he says: The True Version. An item of unusual interest to the public has of late made the rounds of our journals, purporting to give nothing more nor less than an account of the supposed discovery or existence at Aquila, Italy, of an authen- tie copy of the sentence of condemnation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by Pontius Pilate. I certainly wonder where the press got hold of their information, as | of all the versions that have circulated now and then for nearly half a century in all parts of the world this last is the most imperfect of all. Notwithstanding that this most extraordinary document is by many considered apocryphal, in fact, al- most too singular to be true, the many readers of The Star may be pleased to Jearn its full history and original version, as published by the Spanish time of its discovery.
