S., arose to de- liver the valedictory. “I am not insensible | to the difficulty of the task when I under- take to speak for a class of dentists,” said Dr. Galloway in opening, “owing to the feeling in the popular mind relative to this painfully useful and sometimes much- sought for class of peopl there will be nothing in the program to- right that will be suggestive of the tooth- ache, or the low sweet hum of the dental eugine, and that I may be pardoned for the offense if, in behalf of the class, I admin- ister a small quantity of gas, which, it is trusted, will not be sufficient in quantity to produce anesthesia.’ After speaking of thé course of study pur- sued, the valedictorian referred to the deaths of Professors Edward T. Fristoe and William Lee; addressed the faculty and his classmates, and concluded with some ex- cellent verses. Professor H. C, Thompson, at the conclu- sion of “Lancers’ Call,” by the orchestra, arded the faculty prize for the best rec- ord in scholarship during the three years to Walter A. Low of Virginia, that gentieman having attained a per centage of 92.85. This announcement brought forth shouts of “What's the matter with Low? He's all right!’ and other of a similar nature from a number of young gentlemen in attend- ance. The audience listened to “Ethiopia Patrol,” Rev. Dr. Cole pronounced a bene- dictiow, and to Fanciulli’s “D. G. 8. For instance: Pills and purgatives which act quickly upon the bowels trritate and destroy the mucous coats of the stomach and bowels. A con- tinued use of such remedies produces chronic in- flammation of the stomach amd bowels. The vse of the genuine imported Carlsbad Sprudel Salt is, therefore, highly recommended because its action ts due solely to its constitutional solvent and stimulating properties, without Irritating the stom- ach. The members of the Key Monument Association, who are now renewing their efforts to dignify the memory of the author, already have some money on hand, and will raise what they have to the necessary amount through the giving of entertainments and by soliciting Popular assistance. The whole country, the interested ones of Frederick say, should contribute to the erection of Key's monument. Though he was a son of Maryland, what he did has secured national appreciation, and a nation should do his memory honor. The District will be one of the first places visited by those having the subscription fund in charge, it being the place next to Frederick most particularly interested in the movement. A Real Estate Trangactio The large unimproved piece of property to the east of the Southworth cottage, fronting on Prospect, 36th and M streets, and con- taining nearly 44,000 square feet of ground, has been transferred to C. C. Glover, for a figure said to be close on to $30,000, The adjoining property, owned by Mr, Chas. Krause, together with the home and premises of Mr. B. T. Janney, has also been negotiated for by the same party. On the consummation of the deals, it is sald, the former will receive $5,000, and the lat- ter $8,000. The house immediately south of the cottage of Mrs. Southworth will also share in the deal. Mr. Glover, it is claimed by those ac- quainted with the condition of things, rep- resents the Washington and Georgetown Railroad Company, who will occupy the property for railroad purposes. They Were Married. In honor of the marriage of her daughter Sarah to Mr. Daniel R. McCauley of Elicott City, Md., the residence of Mrs. Samuel Howard on Monday evening last was ablaze with light and beautiful with decorations. The marriage ceremony was performed by IT STOPS THE PROGRESS of Consumption. The makers of Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery are certain of it. They've proved it for years —and they're willing ‘to it with the it that if it doesn’t benefit or cure, in every rental for its lease. For a government land- ing it would be unsurpassed, as the depth of the water would permit the heaviest of cargoes to be landed. A slight extension of the wharf, according to a government chart recently published, would give water to the depth of thirty-three feet. In the handling of government freight here thou- sands of dollars would be saved to the United States government. Further Notes. The decision of the district attorney on the Prospect avenue extension case, giving the District the right to go ahead with the street's Improvement and pronouncing the Georgetown College’s claim to the northern half of the street groundless, is regarded with extreme pleasure by all Georgetowners. The street's improvement for years has been asked for by both in- dividuel property holders and the citizens in formal session. Mrs. Ann Lyons, the mother of the Rev. Thomas Lyons, pastor of St. Peter’s Catho- lic Church at Hancock, on the Chesapeake and Ohio canal, died on Wednesday night, in her seventy-fourth year. Her remains will be interred at Baltimore. At 3 o'clock this afternoon the remains of Mr. John G. Hedgman were laid to rest in Rock Creek cemetery. Those who acted as pall-bearers at the funeral were Mr. James Carbery, Mr. Walter Brown, Mr. 8. Kidwell, Mr. John Blundon, Mr. Frank Fauth, and Mr. David Wetzel. —— To Examine His Sanity. In Judge Kimball's court this morning a man named Peter Molle, a Frenchman, who says he is employed as fireman at the Metropolitan Club, was arraigned on a charge~of vagrancy. He plead not syllty. He was arrested by Policeman Pearce of the sixth precinct because of complaint that he had been in St. Aloysius Church and had insulted ladies. Father Dolan appeared as a witness in the case. He told the court of complaints received about ladies being insulted in the church. The prisoner, he said, answers the desorip- tion given of the man, and yesterday when he was arrested he was identified by one of his victims. In his own defense the prisoner said he was drunk, and if he did what was against him it was because of the liquor he drank.
