12 SUBURBAN NEWS. ALEXANDRIA. ‘There are now held in the Alexandria Jail two prisoners, Benj. White and James Robinson of Prince William county, who were moved here from the jail at Manassas. They are charged with outrage on Mrs. Eliott and Mrs. Helfin of that county. They were brought here by Mr. H. G. Payne, jailor of Prince William county, who brought with him the warrant of Hon. W. C. Lipscomb, county judge of Prince Wil- Ham, directing the removal of these two men to the jaii here, “the jail of Prince William not being sufficient to resist an at- tempt to lynch such prisoners.” The Star correspondent, by the kindness of Jailor Smith, saw the prisoners yesterday. Both are young, and while Robinson is a light mulatto, White could readiiy pass for a white man. “Are you a negro?” asked The Star of him. “Y i'm a colored man,” re- sponded White. ““They say you have plead guilty, Is it true?” “Yes, we plead guilty before the magistrate.” “Why did you do it?" asked The Star. “Because he,” point- ing ‘w Kobinson, “tola me that he had some promises.” These prisoners will re- maia here untii the time of gheir trial in Prince William. The punishment of their offense is death or imprisonment in the penitentiary atthe discretion of the jury.
