13 THER EVENING STAR, THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 1894-TWELVE PAGES. SUBURBAN NEWS. . ‘There has long been a desire on thé part of a number of inhabitants of Alexandria cvunty to remove the county seat from this city to some place more central to the county inhabitants. ‘The subject was brought up again at the county meeting held here yesterday, and it was resolved that the legislature be petitioned to allow the county to dispose of its interest in the; court house and jail, provided the county has any rights in these buildings; and the clerk of the court and the commonwealth’s attorney were appointed to inquire what those rights were. It was long ago stated | in The Star that the United States bought the land and built the court house and jail by an appropriation, and that in 1846 Con- gress in the act of retrocession directed that the court house and jail property “shail be conveyed to the governor of Virginia and his successors for the use of the county and corporation of Alexandria forever.
