Saturday Special, THE SOCIAL WORLD. Yesterday Was the Occasion of Several Pretty Teas. The Debuts of Miss Brewer and .Miss Draper Were Pleasant Events of the Day—Personal. The weather was just in line yesterday afternoon for the teas, and the West End was gay with passing equipages from 4 to 7. The debut tea of Miss Brewer, daughter of Justice and Mrs. Brewer, was a great success. The popularity of the genial jus- tice and his attractive wife would have made this certain anyway, but, added to that, the introduction of their charming young daughter made the occasion doubly pleasant. The house was most tastefully decorated with quantities of maidenhair fern and fine palms. The mantels of both parlors were banked with the maidenhair, and the surroundings were quite ideal when the guests commenced to assemble shortly after 4 o'clock. Mrs. Brewer, in an elegant toilet of black silk trimmed with point lace, Nearly 900 people crowded the exhibi- tion hall at the Central High School this morning to hear the exercises that had been prepared in connection with the closing of school for the holidays. Promptly at 11 o'clock the sections filed into the hall and occupied their customary chairs, Sections A and B of the third year and B of the second year marched in with large Christmas trees, appropriately deco- rated, and took piaces in the rear part of the hall. The program was a very inter- esting one, including a violin solo, De Ber- ‘s “Fantasie Ballet,” ; Teading, Ruggies’ Dinner Party,” by Mrs. Walton, together with an appropriate selection by the High School Choir; song, “Oh, Come, Let Us Adore Him,” by the whole school, with piano accompaniment by Miss Mason; noth 7 “i rol the choir, and “Christmas ” by e 4 ee violin solo, “Andante,” from Mendelssohn's Concerto, by Mr. Joseph Fin accom- panied by Miss Myers. Closing, 5 made a few remarks, wishing the pupils and their friends a merry Christmas and happy New Year, The exhibition hall of the Eastern High School was crowded with pupils and their friends this morn j presented each comer to her daughter, who Wore a most becoming gown of pale yellow | few silk and chiffon.
