As the boards meet on the first and fourth Tuesdays of each month, meetings take Place at the intervals of two weeks, except that at four times a year there is an inter- val of three weeks between the meetings. At the meeting tonight the subject of com- Pelling the Pennsylvania Railroad Company ‘nd the Richmond and Danville Railroad Company to place gates at the street cross- ngs will come up for consideration. The subject of increasing the salaries of several officers and of the police will come up, and the proposal to grade a portion of Wythe street will also be considered as unfinished business from the last deeting. The meeting of the Alexandria Water Company here at noon yesterday, hereto- fore in part reported to The Star, reduced its semi-annual dividend from $2.50 to $ ber share, the reduction being occasioned by the expenditure necessary to make an aque- duct at Taylor's run and so avohi the possi- bility of the pollution of the water supplied to the town. Mr. F. J. Power has been con- tinued as superintendent. The Art School connected with the public school system of this citv was opened last night at the Peabody building. The corporation court has as yet trans- acted no business at the November term, Which opened yesterday. Miss Elsie A. Febrey has been appointed assistant principal at the graded school at Carne School building In Alexandria county. Prof. Stalcup is in charge of the school. The Columbia fire engine is now out of service for repairs, but the former Henry Addison engine of the District of Columbia, which is held by that company as a reserve engine, can be used in case of need. ‘The funeral of Mrs. Gen. A. C. Myers, who died here at the residence of her daugh- ter, Mrs. Chalmers, at 219 South Alfred street, will take place at St. Paul’s Church tomorrow. The service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Crawford of the Virsinia Sem- inary. Mrs. Myers was the daughter of the late Gen. Twiggs of the United States army. The Virginia Co-overative Farming As- sociation, with A. J. Milliken of Chesterfield county as president, has been chartered by Judge Norton. The state taxes are now due and are being received by Treasurer Harlow. The ladies’ fair in aid of Rathbone Divis- fon, No. 8, Uniformed Knights of Pythias. gathered a pleasant throng at its opening at Odd Fellows’ Hall last night. HYATTSVILLE. Several candidates for membership of the Baptist Colored Church of Charlton Heights were immersed in the canal near that village on last Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. P. Brooks, the pastor. The meet- ing was opened by Rev. Mr. Watkins, and the address to the candidates was delivered by Rev. Mr. Chizzin. A meeting of the Colored Christian En- Geavor Soctety of Charlton Heights will be held at the Colored Baptist Church in the village at 3 o'clock next Sunday after- noon. The Eureka Grange have in preparation a novel entertainment called “The Pink Sisters,” which will be given in the Grange Hall at Chillum on the evening of Novem- Der 21. Local talent will have entire charge of the performance, but the local talent of Chillum is known to be of excellent quality. ‘The Brookland Card Club will hold the first meeting of the season on Thursday evening of this week at the residence of Mr. Harry Barton. A wedding of much interest in the com- munity was that of Miss Katie Truxson anc Mr. Charles Vincent at the Soldiers’ Home chapel. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father D. C. De Wulf of St. An- thony’s Church of Brookland, The bride ‘was beautifully attired in white silk and lace and carried a lovely bouquet of bride roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Egith Burgess, wore pink silk and carried pink roses. The groom's attendant was Mr. Lincoln Barnes, and the ushers were Mr. Charles Burgess | and Mr. Jack Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent will make their future home on the Queen's Chapel road, near the Northwest branch. Gen. Green Clay Smith preached an able sermon in the Baptist Church of Brookland on Sunday evening and -held services last evening. The extra meetings will be con- tinued this and tomorrow evenings and per- haps all this week, In charge of Rev. R. R. West and Gen. Smith. The Dorcas Society of St. Clement's P. E.
