The giant tree has been slowly dying for over two years and the decaying branches had become a menace to travelers on the thoroughfare. There are some hopes that the verdure will shoot out again in the spring, and, if not, trailing vines are to be planted around the immense trunk, and thus still preserve this object of interest in the landscape. The trustees of Rock Creek parish have bought two lots at the corner of Philadel- phia and 13th streets, University Heights, to be held in trust for five years for St. Clement's mission of Brookland, upon which, if the mission so desire, they can build an church. Its first meeting was taken up with the election of officers; the second meeting was given over to the appointment of committees, and the third was devoted to some necessary rou- tine work. The fourth is the one which it is said will mean business, and will give the world to understand that although Anacos- tia may not be bounded by Canada and the Gulf of Mexico, she is part of the United States. It is said that those people who are bears on her progress will hear something drop on Friday night. The revival at the M. E. Church is to con- tinue throughout this week. It is not de- termined whether it will be concluded at the end of the week. Rev. The Democratic Anti-ring Club held a Public meeting in Free Quill Hall on Sat- urday night, which was addressed by ex-Mayor Cull. It has been thought here- tofore that the club would support the nominees of the democratic party, while protesting against the manner of nomin: tion, but from the speech of Mr, Cull and the advice he gave his audience, they are working for the defeat of the party ticket and the election of the republican ticket. Mr. Cull said he was a democrat, but that he proposed to punish the ring by voting the full republican ticket. What effect the course of these hitherto democrats will have upon the democratic majority here cannot be known until after the election.
