Some Plague Spots Which Should Be Attended To, CONDITION OF THE SEWERS. ‘The Organ at Glen Echo is All Right — The Health Department Needed in George- town—Canal Affairs Prosperous and Boats Numerous—Other Notes. FE SE EER One of the heads of the Presbyterian Church in whom the title to the old 88d street grave- yard is vested said in speaking of the miserable condition of things witbin the inclosure: “The ‘most important work the health department could do for Georgetown would be to entirely obliterate all traces of this poliuted spot by the earliest possible day. Otherwise it is my belief that serious consequences will be the outcome of the present unsanitary condition of the piace. The open graves which are constantly throwing forth the pent up vileness of years will be the primary cause of an epidemic in this neighborhood I firmly believe before the sam- ‘mer is over.” ‘ HEALTH OFFICE WANTED. There is continual complaint about the filthy condition of sewers and streets in the western Part of town. Thirty-fifth street between N and O is particularly in need of visite from Fepresentativer of the departments in charge. e odors sent forth by the sewers have been nauseating for the past three days. THE OBGAN NOT RUINED. ‘The statement made in yesterday's Stan, in this column, that the organ at the amphitheater at Glen Echo had been ruined, through expo- sure to dampness. was unfounded. Through some defect in the application of the paint the decorations of the organ pipes have off, which has probably given rise jo the rumors of utter ruin and de- vastation. Dampness has had nothing todo with this, and so far as the organ itself is con- cerned itis in perfect condition. The builder, who was recently in the city, bas certified that the organ was standing aswell as organs in churches. As s matter of fact there is no reason why the organ at Glen Echo should be ‘by dampness. The amphitheater is entirely dry, and. although open for a free current of ait, the ol poke ‘tslt is well protected. Speaking generally of the Chau- tanqua grounds, it may be said that constant eet ort reson is ray a and beaatifal institution. — MARTHA'S WINDFALL. The harbor police are dragging that part of the river where the un- fortunate circumstance 1 said to have oc- eurred. Special Ofticer Broderick of the Coit and one or two volunteers are lending aid.
