From the New York Sun, Hovowvtv, June 28, via San Francisco, July 5.—The government has finally executed what has been for some time iz view, namely, the arrest of ascertained agénts in the royalist dynamite conspiracy. Qn the afternoon of Friday, June 23, simultaneous arrests were of T. B. Walker, Archtvald Sinclair and . C. Crick on the charge of conspiracy to seize the executive building and overturn the government. The offense is not bailable, and the prisoners have been held in confinement pending examination. * ‘The government has known something of this conspiracy for three months, and for sev- eral weeks it bas porseseod much cxact iu- formation. A very conservative policy has been pursued, and no arrests were made until the evidence was entirely complete against the accused. This evidence was submitted to four legal advisers and pronounced sufficient. Meantime every precaution was taken against a.surprise. Of the arrested persons W: the son-in-law of a leading half white royalist, John Cummings, and is a mason by trad Sinclair is a mason, but of irregular habite. Crick is a chemist out of employment. About twenty prominent whites and half castes are more or less implicated by the evidonce in pos- session of the government. Nine of these per- sons have been cabinet ministers. More arrests are likely to be made at any time, but none without ample evidence to justify such action. The use of dynamite was the chief means of the scheme of ‘the conspirators, Their plans seem to have been bold and extensive, but more on an anarchistic basis than one of ‘reg- ular warfare. Nearly all persons implicated have more or less shady records, No pure Ha- waiians appear to have been in the affair, It is believed that no evidence implicates Paul Neumann or Claus Spreckels, although the con- spirators had sanguine hopes of pecuniary aid from the latter. At the time of the arrests the houses of Walker and Cummings were searched. No die- coveries of arms or of dynamite made. Much consternation followed the arrests, re- sulting in additional information being con- tributed by persons implicated. A general effect of demoralization has been juced among the royalists, whose chief plot for the restoration of the queen has now collapsed. At noon on June 28, just before the sailing of the Belgic, evidence against the conspirators began to be presented. Minister Blount says that he has not yet sent forward any report, but will take it with him when he leaves the islands. Claus Spreckels found on his gate few days ‘ago a placard ornamented with skull and cross- bones and bearing the inscription: Gold and silver will not stop lead.” He laid the matter before Minister Blount, and the latter forwarded Spreckels’ statement to the provisional government. The government says it has evidence against the men it has ar- rested showing they were forming a plot to blow up the government building and then hoot down the annexationists when they should rush to the scene. A large number of other persons are being watched by the author- ities, Six or seven hundred annexationists have formed a “citizens’ reserve.” They are armed with rifles, and have selected certain promi- nent supporters of tho ex-queen, whose names are known, and marked them for slaughter in event of a royalist outbreak. A member of this organization gives a list of names marked. for assassination, and says that in addition to prominent Hawaiians it includes Claus Spreckles and Minister Blount in case they in- terfere in any fight that may occur. As the Browns sandwiched in a number of good hard hits Yt is no wonder that the Senators were badly beaten. ‘The out- field of the Browns put up an extraordinary game, making nine put outs, some of them being-difficult catches and cutting off appar- ently safe doubles and triples. The Browns playing at home under Von der Ahe’s watchful eye and playing away from home are two dif- ferent teams. The game they put up yester- day would have been hard.for any elub to excel. Five errors are charged against the Senators, but they were not costly.
