Bowie, gave himself up to Hilleary Jack#on, a colored man, and to Mr, Frauk Jones yesterday afternoon, after _lead- ing the sheriff and his deputies a weary chase through the swamps. He Was on the farm of Mr. Cuarles J. Bonaparte where he agreed tobe, by appointment, with Jackson. According to the arrangement made he was on hand to meet Jnckson, who, with Mr. Jones, was lying in wait with a carriage, He got in and was driven totown and delivered to Sheriff Middleton at the jail door, Pinkney was as docile asalnmb. He said | that he was tired of being hounded to death by Onicers Clarke and Suit and their posse, who have had him on the run for the past four H days, preventing Lim from getting anything to eat. The gather- ing is known as the Imperial Council of North | America of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of | the Mystic Shrine, and it is estimated that 5,000 nobles, coming from all parts of the Union, will take part in the festivities, A large number of Shriners arrived Sunday, and this morning trains brought hundreds in addition, and the local Shriners were kept | busy receiving their brother nobles and escort- | ing them to places of entertainment. | Tonight the festivities proper commence with | “The Well in the Desert.” an elaborate recep- | tion and promenade concert in the Graud Hotel, | which is the headquarters of the Imperial | Council. Decorations of the most gorgeous character, oriental rugs, tapestry, oil paintings, couches | and Egyptian bannerets in profusion, inter- | mingled with, the American tri-color, will adorn the magnificent rotunda, lobbies and parlors of the hotel. It was also decided to hold daily meetings of the committce in parlor 10 at noon, and these wili be the only meetings held by the committee unless u special meeting should become neceseary at some other time.
