Yesterday, after Tux Stan's revort closed, the testimony in the Ruppert case was con- tinued. After the recess Mr. Wolf resumed the stand, He denied that he had ever referred to Mr. Ruppert in « disparaging way in connection with the December fire or at any other time. To his death Mr. | Ruppert was the same clesr-headed man that he had always been, and he considered that he was always of a sound, disposing mind. To Mr. Worthington Mr. Wolf stated that his firm bad rendered @ bill to the Ruppert estate for insurance, but at the request of the witness, who explained that he was quite unwell, the further cross-examination of Mr. Wolf was postponed until Monday morning. GEORGE L. SEUFFERLE. George L. Seufferle testified that he had known Mr. Ruppert since 1876, and always regarded him as m very good man of business, keen and clear-headed, of more than average intelligence. Mrs. Conway testified that she was s clerk in Mr. Ruppert’s store for several years. The store closed at 7 p.m. on other days than Satur- day, when it closed at 9 for the female clerks. ‘Mr.’ Ruppert was not of a sweet, even temper, and often scolded the clerks. He was excitable and cross even to his wife. She noticed no mental change in him after the December fire. orthington the witness said Mr. ‘as at the store ail day on the day of ire. Witness had ‘often threatened to leave because of Mr. Ruppert’s cross, overbear- ing ways, GOOD BUSINESS MAN. ‘Mr. James Coilins, the receiving teller of the Bank of Washington, testified that Mr. Ruppert was a depositor in the bank. As a rule, he made bis own deposits, making out his own Sekots. Johnson, a member of the bar, said that he had known Mr. Ruppert for « number of years. He was a remar! ‘man, a very in- telligent one. Me. George Emmert testified that he had resided here 43 or 44 years, and had known Mr. Ruppert intimately for forty years. He ar- ranged to go with witness to Germany in May, 1891, but did not secompany witness. Mr. Ruppert was a man of intelligence, very de- and not easily influenced. R. Hunt with appropriate re- marks. The occasion of the presentation was the seventy -seventh birthday of the grand master. ‘Prof. Daniel,” as he pl peal een known to the citizens of Washington, was initiated into Central Lodge, No. 1, on January 9, 1899, dfty-four years ago, and was admitted to Columbian Encampment in 1840. A Colored Boy Who Had a Strange Assort- ment of Goods With Him. Yesterday morning, about 2 o'clock, Police- man Tracy of the ninth precinct noticed a col- ored boy walking along the Baltimore and Ohio railroad track near 8th and I streets northeast. ‘The boy was acting suspiciously and sppearod anxious that no one should see him. Thinking something wrong the officer steppod out from the shadow of a house where he was standing and placed the boy under arrest after ho had failed to give a satisfactory account of himself.
