They say the attack was only of a temporary nature and he is expected to be up in a day or two. The announcements this morning that the veteran actor Edwin Booth had been stricken by paralysis and was dying aroused the greatest interest all over this erty. ‘The Players’ Club in Gramerey Park, where Mr. Booth makes bis home, was early besieged by telephoue and callers aud everyone was as- sured that Mr. Looth's condition was notes serious as reported Dr. St. Clair Smith, Booth’s own physician, who was called in last night, said positively this morning that Booth bed not had astroke of paralysis. Farerrevitie, Anxk., April 20.—At noon yesterday a cyclone passed through the valley just south of this place leaving a barren waste behind it. It uprooted trees, tore down fences and destroyed house, Many homes were utterly demolished. Many families were in the storm last night without shelter. Out of one family, whose name is Wright, con- sisting of eight persons, not one escaped serious injury, but | it is probable that all except one child will re- cover. Parts of their house were carried for miles away, A number of others are re- portea injured, but how many and to what ex- tent cannot vet be determined. The cyclone was plainly visible from this place and many witnessed the horrible scene. LIKE & DOUBLE WHIRLWIND, The cloud came up from the southwest,'fol- lowing a northeasterly course. It was in sight for about thrag miles, The upper portion of the cloud was fannel shaped and black and spinning like a whirlwind round and ‘round and under and the ground was another cloud, almost white, which Was apparently touching the ground and roll- ing in directly the opposite direction to the upper one, literally lifting everything off the face of the earth that fell in its path. ‘Trees, fences and planks and parts of buildings were flying through ihe air in every direction. Just in front of the fannel-shaped cloud was small cloud that looked like « ribbon whirl- ing through the air. The cyclone was followed by aheavy wind and rain that lasted most of the afterrioon. ‘News bas been received of a fearful cyclone that swept down Fourche valley, leaving death and havoc in its wake, Boles was almost swept off the earth. Seven persons were killed. A spectator says that just before the wind struck town strange atinospheric phenomena were noticed and the people were to some extent prepared for the visitor.
