An enormons wheat crop—greater by many millions of bushels than the most extrav- agant estimates—fills the granariesandelevators of the west. King Corn sits on a throne more Fegally altitndinons than any he has ever oceu- pied and «miles over @ tassel-decorated area truly enormous. The fruits of earth are more generously and generally distributed than they ever were, even within the memory of that cen- teal Thankegiving feature, the oldest inhabitant. Commercially the year has been remarkably successful; manufactnring | enterprises have prospered exceedingly and there firmness in the con- dition of financial affairs. No man bas any bet- ter reason for being thankful than the man who toils with his hands. Wages have been fairer and the hours of Inbor less for a greater com- sation than the mechanic ever knew. Politically the country ie thankful that the too-frequent presidential election is over, aud while all the people will not rejoice over the 1d seem as though the non-eruitant too few to spoil the festival or to raise a discordant note which could be heard in the great national chorus. Democrats are thankful because there is promise of four years of feast- Republicans are thankful because they beliove that the democrats will find their stice of turkey too large to swallow.
