Bishops snd Distinguished Episcopalian Clergymen Preach in This City. The sermons in many of the Episcopal cburches in this city yesterday were from the lips of prominent members of the Episcopal convention now in session in Baltimore. A number of the bishops who are in attendance at the sessions of the convention came over here and preached to Washington audiences. ‘The Episcopalians of this city are evincing a great deal of interest in the convention, and 80 far as possible hospitality is extended to the delegates. The presence here of so many of the leading divines of the chureh gave an addi- tional interest to the usual church services. The attendance in all the Episcopal churches w: larger then usual, and 1 autumn flowers, gavea further attractiveness to the services. The congregation of Christ Church, George- town, had the pleasure of listening to @ sermon yesterday morning from Bishop Wm. A. Leon- | 1 afd of Ohio. As the rector of St. John’s Church | this clty and is therefore no stranger to the | Episcopalians of the District. Dr. Charles Hale, as- sistant bishop of Illinois, preached. services were largely attended and the dis- courses listened to with great interest. At the Charch of the Incarnation Bishop Gil- lespie of Michigan preached at the morning service. The congregation of St. James’ Church listened yesterday morning to an eloquent dis- Nicholson of Milwaukee. While in the city the bishop was the guest of Gen, Duncan S. Walker. A large congregation filled the handsome auditorium of Epiphany Church yesterday morning and listened to a scholarly sermon de- livered by Rev. Dr. William R. Huntingdon, the rector of Grace Chureh, New York city. ‘The assistant bishop of Alabama, Rt, Rev. Henry M. Jackson, defivered the sermon at the even- ing rervice. At Ascension Church Rev. Dr. Copers of Charleston, 8. C., delivered the sermon in the morning and in ‘the evening Canon Mills of Trinity Chureh, Montreal, Canada, occupied the pulpit. ‘Archdeacon Oliver of Kearney, Neb., delit- ered the sermon last evening at St. Stephen's Church, on 14th street extended. Rev. H. L. Phillips of Philadelphia preached at St Luke's in the morning. At the evening service Kev. Frazier Miller occupied Dr. Crum- mell’s pulpit. —__—_—> A Testimonial to Capt. Parmenter. One of the most thoroughly and pleasen surprised men in the city last Saturday night was Capt. H. H. Parmenter, quartermaster of the recond District of Columbia regiment. For two years Capt. Parmenter has performed all quartermaster and commissary duties for the riflemen who have represented the District at Creedmoor and Sea Girt. That he was faith- ful end popular is evidenced by the fact that he was inveigied from his home at Mount Pleasant to second regiment headquarters and there presented with a silver tea service, pur- chased for that purpose by those who were members of the detachment that chot at Sea Girt last month. Lieut. Geo. H. Harries, as captain of the brigade team, made the presen- tation speech. and after Capt. Parmenter had accepted the gift there were several enlogistic addresses by Col. Clay, Capt. W. L. Cash, Capt. F. Bell, Lieut. F. L. Graham, Lieut.’ Tom- nson and others. eget A Day for the Old Foiks. The Fourth Street Methodist Church has a pleasant custom once a year of setting apart a Sunday for the observance of what is called “Olé Folks’ day.” Yesterday was “Old Folks’ day” and an interesting and touching service was beld at the church. Many of the aged members of the church, whose advanced years prevent their regular at- tendance, eame upon this occasion and were sented in easy chairs in front of the pulpit. The Pulpit was handsomely decorated with plants and flowers. The sorvices were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. J. Thompson, assisted by John L. Haghey, Rev. Dr. Osborn and Mr. Satell. An interesting musical program formed a part of the services. —_—-—_ The Colored Odd Fellows. After a session of five days the sixth biennial convention of the Movable Committee of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, colored, adjourned sine die Saturday evening. The election of officers resulted as follows: Grand master, W. M. F. Forrester, Richmond, Va.; deputy grand master, Charles B. Wilson, New ‘Giew Ea; grand secretary, C. H.
