Ou an excursion covering half a day end carrying perhaps 2,000 G. A. K. men I did Bot observe a single one of them who was intoxi- tated, notwithstanding the fact that liquors ‘were easily accessible. I think there was as Wittle inebriety among the G. A. The story concerns the kind-hearted offer on the part of a young man to relieve another, who is already married in secret, of the duty of courting a girl to whom he was betrothed in childhood by his father. As the two young men eXchange names the kind-hearted one finds bim- self in an embarrassing position when he falls in love in earnest with the young woman, The star actor in this ¢ of polite intrigues—which has a foreign or, by the way—is young, good looking. graceful and alert, and he has been intrusted with plenty of important characterizations, so he should bave gained ease and facility by is timu. Emery, the brother of that Emery, who was here in Irving's support a few keusons ago. Harem’ Buow Taeater.—The attraction at Harris’ Bijou Theater next Monday night will | be the great drama “Siberia.” It is one of the | most powerful productions that the dramatic literature of this country has developed. Few | plays bave appealed to human interest with | hdirect power and gained in popularity ‘om season to season as this has done. Bartley ‘ampbell chose as a subject for thix work the | Russian government's favorite method of pun- | ishment—evile to the snow-covered wastes of | northern Aria. Young and versatile, she bids fair to prove a| strong card. The entertainment is divided | into a first part, olio and burlesque, and is said to be uniformly excellent. ‘Tue Iste or Cuamracye.—The latest enc- cessful addition to the list of comic operas is “The Isle of Champagne,” in which Mr. Thomas Q. Seabrooke has made a wonderful reputation in a very brief period, for the new opera (by Mesers. Byrne and Harrison) was produced for ‘the first time in Chicago last summer and has been sung since only in Boston and Philadel- phia. But Mr. Seabrooke’s comedy work has attracted wide attention, and by common con- sent he seems to be entitled to wear the cap and bells as the new-found champion of iyric com- edy. His fund of humor ix said to be both in- exhaustible and irresisible. Mr. Seabrooke brings a splendid company to ai resenting this attractive novelty at Albaugh’s during the week of October 3. The spectacular features of “The Isle of Champagne” are said Yo be magnificent and elaborate. Mr.Cuas. B. Haxvoup.—The eminent young actor, Chas. B. Hanford, who comes to the Academy of Music next Monday night, enjoy tun exceptional reputation throughout the country, notwithstanding the fact that this is his first season as a stellar attraction. He h Jong been conspicuous for his thorough artistic | work in the leading roles of support to some of | the most prominent of American stars.” He will present “Julius Ceasar,’ appearing him-| self in the role of Mare Antony. It is in this character that he has at-| tracted, perhaps, the widest attention. His| of vigor and artistic grace, and in this part he has peculiar scope for his ial talents, Julius Cwrar gives room for the highest class of work, not only in the role of Marc Antony, but in several others. Mr. Hanford’s company has been selected with care, and the results else- where have been most satisfactory.
