Carleton Opera Company in that of Strauss’ called “Indigo.” Notwithstanding unusually strong attractions elsewhere a fino andience in attendance and enjoyed the performance with most applausive vigor. ‘In- digo” comes to the capital for the first time with the Carletons, and it* has scored a success right at the start. Ite plot and pian are cut in the usual fashion, with the real interest centered in the music, and filled out with the topical song, the current gag and those other attractive features that an author never thinks of, and wouldn't put into his libretto if he did. Among the well-known and popular singers of other seasons here in the cast are Miss Langdon, Miss Wisdom, Mr. Carleton and Mr. Drew. and it is pleasant to see their familiar faces and hear their familiar voices once more. Mr. Carleton as Ali Baba made a fine figure, and the lullaby song be sings in the second act is one of those melodies an audience takes home with it and never forgets. Miss Langd is as bright and pretty as ever and Miss W dom as Khadamanta, especially in her Ama- zonian uniform, was a delightfal surprise to those who have admired her in this robe. Mr. Drew as “King Indigo” was decidedly fanny and his “Thousand Year” topical song was suel 000s you hear uot more than once ina thousand years. Mr. Blake as Janio sang very nicely mdeed. “Miss bach was effective and Rained an emphatic encore for her solo in the first act. There was no attompt at a plot, but there were some excellent songs, dances, marches and tableaux that thoroughly delighted the audience. In fact so pleased were they that the encores got to be rather wearisome before the performance was over. All the cast were excellent in their respective characters, Those who had male parts were manly and vigorous, as become them, while those assigned to feminine characters tripped daintily and were costamed with exceeding good taste. The piece was handsomely staged and everything buck of the curtain moved with perfect’ precision, due to the ilifal stage management of Mr. Clayton F. McMichael, whose efforts deserve warm recogni Mr. MeMichaei also sustained the part of Sennacherib aud proved himself an accomplished actor. ‘The Cleopatra of Mr. Frederick B. Neilson was a good piece of work and evidently showed exactly what the author meant by the character, tor Mr. Neilson was the writer of the play. The dances were ar- ranged by Mr. MicMichael and Mr. F. B. Meigs and their work was perhaps the best appre- ciated. The premicre danseuse was Mr. Ken- drick, whose movements were extremely grace- ful aud effective, and in the serpentine dance in the third act he received a veritable ovation. Long as the perfomance was the audience was not satisfied, and after the curtain had rung down on the last act it was obliged to go up in, while Mra. Cleopatra came forward and a neat little speech of thanks and the whole company gave the college yell. The performance was in every way a success and the club bas reasou to be gratified on the re- sult of its efforts. Acapxmy o¥ Mustc.—‘The Little Tycoon,” which has been frequently seen here before, commenced an engagementat the Academy of Music last night, and the bright and attractive ic of Mr. Willard Spencer's opera was ed to by a gocd-sized audience with every demonstration of satisfaction, Mr. Robert Graham, the origiua! Gen. Knickbocker, was the leading feature of the cast, and his comedy was infectious and his singing and daucng foliy up to his standard.
