Pearline takes the hard work and drudgery out of—keeping a home clean. It is next to having the washing and clean- ing done for you, and well done at that. It washes everything that can be washed. Itcleans paint, marble, carpets, hangings—in fact everything cleanable. It is a luxury in the bath. It is emphatically without harm to person or things. The National Federation of America, recently organized in New York tonid the home rnle movement in Ireland, has issued tho follow- ing: To the Friends of Home Rale for Ireland: Agrave danger to the Irish cause compels us to address you on the present occasion. As part of a people that has struggled so long and so bravely to regain their political rights, we cannot abaudon the contest now in its most trying hour. Yet little longer and the perse- Yerance, courage, patience and wisdom that have been so admirably displayed by our peo- ple, will bo erowned with success. You know the heroic efforts of the Irish poople and their representatives in Parliament for the past twelve years, You know the intense strain to which the entire popn- lation has been subjected, and the wonderful manner in which that strain has been sustained. You are equally awsre of the “unfortunate events of more recent occurrence, which well nigh-wrecked the hopes of the people, after all their splendid sacrifices. It only remaina, therefore, to consider what further action should be taken, so that the efforts of the past may not be wasted and the hope of the future be disappoizted. It was not to be expected, in the very culmination of a nation’s hopes, that a danger would have arisen in the manner and from the source whence it came. We were led to expect, and the cause certainly de- manded, the most unimpeachable integrity in those who aspired to be its champions; but when to gravest social lapses political blunders amounting to madness are added, the situation becomes derperate, and this very con- dition ix the issue we have to mect. Painful as it ir to say it, because of his past political services, Mr. Parnell can no longer be Tegarded as a possible leader of the Irish move- ment. Never did any nation offer a greater opportunity to inscribe an honored name on the page of history than Ireland offered him in her futert conflict but ho hus thrown it from his grusp nnprized. She made him chief and Invished honors on him. He was the center of her councils, the connecting link of all her po- litical forces. She finde herself mistaken. He has followed other courses and lett her power weakened and her councils divided. Itie gen. erally xo whon the destinica of a nation are cen- tered in an individual. Let uslearn from it. Tet us speak to the people of Ireland at the present crisis with no uncertain yoice. ‘Their splendid action at the by-elections proves they have even anticipated our wishes. “They must lay aside forever hero worship and one-man leadership. Full repre: sentation, free assemblage, fair discussion and the temperate rnle of the majority must be the guiding principles and, with a single mind, the nation must resolve that for no man must the cause of Ireland be sacrificed. To inspire this sentiment and_make it uni- versal wo raise our voices now. We had hoped that from the force of recent events, nnd in a spirit of true patriotism, Mr. Parnell would have retired. We waited silently for this end. Again Lave we been dixzppointed and we now feel that longer silence would be culpable. We cun no longer conceal from ourselyes that he has yielded to matign influences that threaten destruction to the Irish cause. In no other way can we explain many of his recent acts. His hostility to thet pewerful party in England which, under the expres promises of Mr. Gladstone, is solemnly pledged to give home rule to Ireland; his Gontinued insults to the honored head of that party-—to the man hon- ored, not only of England, but of all the world; his intolerant bearing toward the majority of the Irish parliamentary party; his insults and his insolence to the venerable ecclesiastics re- vered by the vast majority of his fellow-coun- trymen; his cowardly catering to the anti-Irish factioniswn of the north of frelund, and last, but by no means the lenst, his cold-hearted treat- ment of the evicted tenantry, who, to carry on his fight for Ireland, have left themselves and their little ones without shelter or food on the rondsiie, while he, complacently beholding their sufferings, locks up $200,000 idly in the bankers’ vaults of Paris. ‘The men must be blind who does not seo in all this « deadly blow at the Irish cause anda spite hat ili accords with disinterested patriotism in the past. The time in which it is exercised magnifies the offense, We are on the eve of s general election. It is conceded on ull sides that ths question of home rnie will be settled tavorubiy or udversely by this election for another generation at icast. What crime could be se great, then, ux dixunio or unpre paredness when it comes: Let the crime lay where it nay, friends of Ireland in Atweric we must be ready. Personal 1 become contemptible in the present hour. ‘Ihe ad- vanced and enlightened thought of England is with us. Only an obstinate and autocratic aristocracy is against us ‘This is the hour of testing if we can be true to onrselzes, of prov- ing to the world that the genius of Ireland can govern iv Ireland as well ae it can serve. We therefore invite ali who sympathize with the cause tu lend it their assistance, to enroll freely in the Irish National Federation and fill ite ranks quickly, ax the time is very short. We ask that the representatives of the people be fethfully sustained by every unwavering friend of Ireland, that all may have an oppor- tunity of performing what we believe to be the Inet generous duty to Ireland. ‘The appeal in signed by Thomas Addis Em- met, M. The Texas alliance convention closed late Saturday night at Fort Worth, after adopting resolutions denouncing the sabtreasury and land-loan schemes and governmental owner- ship of railroads, U. 8. Hall, president of the Miasourl alliance, charged in a speech that Dr. C. W. Macune had sold out to the protectionists and in further- ance of that bargain the third party move was inaugurated in the sonth to divert democratic votes. Ho said that it was no disgrace for such aman as Macune to get into the alliance, but it would becomea disgrace if he was not turned out. President Hall was loudly applauded. ‘The subtreasnryites, of whom a squad walked out of the conyention Saturday, are red hot. It is believed that the outcome of the conven- tion will be a split of the state alliance into factions, one representing the third party and the other the democratic wing. rage convention adopted the following roso- lations: “Resolved, That we denounce the subtreas- ury and lang loan schemes and governmental ownership of railroads ax a violation of ‘the first principles of guod government, as paternal in their character. ax ecntralizing in their char- acter, us centrulizing in their tendencics, and if enacted into law they would create such a horde of national officeholders as would fasten the elutches of the party in power upon the throats of the people #0 strongly that the yoioes of the honest patriotic citizens would no longer be heard in the contro! of government affairs. We demand that these men who are not farmers be removed from national and state offices of our order and that none but those who have their interest in farming be allowed to fill such places. We now appeal to all honest members of the alliance throughout the United States to unite with ux in putting down this common enemy and disgrace of our order. ‘To this end we most earnestly recom- mend the brother alliance men of the United States to meet in national convention at St. Louis on the third Tuesday of September, 1891. “Resolved, That we most heartily indorse the course of Hon. U. 8. Hall, president of the state alliance of Missouri, in refusing to con- our alg) action of green of C. w. Macune at Ocala, in opposing the subtroasury scheme, kc. We enrnostly pledge Mr. Hall our support in the noble and manly effort to rid the order, both state and national, of all shackles which will retard ite strength. KANSAS LEADERS CIEAGRINED, Alliance leaders in Kausas are greatly chagrined and worried at the action of certain leaders of the southorn allianee in calling’ the Fort Worth convention to resolve aguinst the subtreasury idea. gThey claim that it is ‘a scheme of southern democrats to break up the alliance, and that prominent democratic Con- gressmen are at the bottom of it.
