The affair grew out of personalities in the two papers. Caru- thers sent the challenge, and Bouby chose Caliche swords as the weapons. The duel was to have taken place last week, but the police got wind of it, arrested both men, and they were bound over to keep the peace in Louisiana. Subsequently it was decided to fight in Missis- sippi, and arrangements were made for the meeting to take place yesterday. The men were at the place at the hour ap- pointed, and after the preliminaries had been arranged faced each other. After the word was ven some vers active sword play followed. ir. Bouby's weapon soon passed within the guard of ‘his antagonist and the point struck Mr. Caruthers in the face, entering just below the right eye and causing the blood to flow freely. The seconds then interfered. Judge Buisson, one of the seconds of Mr. Bouby, stated that both men had acted gallantly and there was no occasion to pursue the matter further. The duel was therefore brought to an end. The entire party returned to New Or- Jeans last night. They refuse to state at what Point the duel was fought, evidently tearing action on the part of the Mississippi authori- ties should the locality be given. epee MADE MONEY CATCHING RATS.
