Harry Landvoigt Struck Senseless by a High- wayman. Sunday night a brutal assault was committed in East Washington, and the mystery sur- rounding the affair has not yet been solved. The victim of the assault was Mr. Herry Land- binders on 9th street northwest. Mr. Landvoigt lives on L street northeast at No. 510. He had been out visiting Sunday evening and on his way home he met Mr. Scan- Jon, who had {been one of his schoolmates, and when they reached the corner of 4th and K streets they stopped and engaged in converm- tion. At that corner they remained for a long time and when they said good night and sepa- rated the bell in St. Aloysius Church tolled for the hour of 11:30. Each man started for his home and Mr. Landveigt took a short cut, going through 4th street to L, intending to take an air line for his home. There are several stables in that neighborhood and there are plenty of places where a murderer or @ murderously inclined burglar could secrete himself in the shadow of a stable or in a narrow alley that runs through from L street toward K. STRUCK FROM BEHIND. Mr. Landvoigt had turned the corner of 4th and L streets and was between the alley and the corner and in sight of his own home, when he was suddenly dealt a severe blow on the back of his head. The blow was a stunning one and nearly knocked him down, but he re- covered himself and turned to see who had {struck him, when another blow caught him | over the left eve and knocked him senseless. he injured man knew nothing more until yesterday morning, when he regained con- sciousness. He was then in his own home un- der the care of Dr. 8. W. Bogan. Who Mr. Landvoigt’s assailant was or what were his motives are not known, but from the condition of things it is possible that robbery was intended. a After being knocked down Mr. Landvoigt’s assailant dragged him some distance to the side | entrance of the house of Mrs. Kelly, who keeps a | store at Sth and Lstreets, and placed him on the porch, where he remained mntil about 2 o'clock yesterday morning. when his groans awakened some members of Mrs. Kelly's family, who came down stairs and there found the young man, HIS WATCH WAS MISSING, When taken from the porch the assaulted man’s watch was missing. ‘The chain had been d was hanging from his vest. ‘The as afterward found not stains upon it, indicating that the ‘assault had been committed for the purpose of robbery and that the highwayman, seeing he only had a silver watch, would not take the risk of capture gvoigt is of the opinion that he was ted for the purpose of robbery, but he At hix astailant mistook hit for one the paying off of a number in_that locality and whom he naturally supposed had an amount of money on him ‘worth stealing. Do not allow this treacherous disease to continue its course unheeded and unchecked. It is liable to develop into bronchitis or consumption, that most dreaded de- stroyer of human life. Catarrh is a disexse of the system and not simply of the nose and throat. ‘The blood reaches every part of the system. Therefore the proper way to cure catarrh is to take @ remedy which will reach the disease through the blood. This is just what Hood's Sarsa- parilla does, and this is the secret of its success in curing CATARRH. It expeis the scrofulous taint which causes and sus- tains catarth, and xives that healthy tone to the whole system before which disease cannot maintain its hold. It you suffer from catarrh or any other disease of the blood just give a fair trial to Hood's Sursaparilla, PERMANENT GOOD. “Thave suffered with catarrh in my head for years and paid ont hundreds of dollars for medicines, but have heretofore received cnly temporary relief. Hood's Sarsaparilia helped ine so much that my catarrh is nearly cured, the weakness of my body is all gone, ny appetite is rood—in fact, I feel like another person. Hood's Sarsaparilla is the best inedicine [have ever taken, and the only one that has done me permanent good.” Mrs. A. CUNNINGHAM, Providence, R.1. EDWIN ¥. JONES, 1820 13th street northwest. For over thirty years I was seriously troubled and annoyed from a profuse discharze from my left ear, at- tended with almost total loss of hearing on that side, and although ;rreatly inconvenieficed by the deafness, yet 1 cared nothing for that in comparison with the ex ceedingly offensive nature of this continuous dis- charge. Physicians who examined my ear pronounced it in- curable; some feared that the stoppage of this long existing dow might prove detrimental to my health or even endanzer my life itself, but seeing a statement from Mr. T. E. Roessle, proprietor of the Arlinston,of similar cose cured by Dr. Lighthill of this city, I grained new hope and applied to that physician for re- Met, and I am happy to state that in about three months’ tine Dr, Lighthit succeeded in curing my case completely. There bas been no discharge for ‘over five months; iny hearing has improved and my weneral health i9 all right. In recommending Dr. Lighthill as » skillful epecial- ist I but perform a duty I owe to those likewise af- fected. EDWIN F. JONES. Washington, November 17, 1800. DR.
