A Bloody Ending of the Celebration of the Fourth of July. Special Dispatch to Tae EvExixs Stan. Axgxaxpura, July 5.—Throngs of colored people enjoyed the holiday yesterday, and as the bar rooms were fully open the crowds to- ward nightfall had among them many who had indulged in drink and were consequently restive, Officers James McCucn and Samuel Ticer, who had been charged by the mayor with the preservation of order near the Wash- ington Southern railway depot, had some ditti- culty in keeping order, and Ofticer Ticer, who had attempted to make au arrest, was resisted by Thad or Fayette Lee, @ refractory colored man who is often prominent in political gath- erings, Lee knocked Officer Ticer down, break- ing his nose; but the officer, after rolling over, leaped up again and advanced on Lee, hol: ing his billy up, but Lee the billy, and them the officer drew his revolver and fired. Lee, who had turned as if to run, quickly faced back and advanced on the officer, who shot him under the left shoulder,and he fell, dying alwost immediately. As he fell the crowd surged upon the officers, for Officer McEuen had come to the rescue of his associate. Ticer fired again and struck « colored man named Geo. Pyne in the head and he fell. This awed the crowd and, other officers arriving, several colored men were ar- rested and carried to the station house. Crowds were forbidden to follow the arrested men to the station house, but lingered about the door of Lee's house, on Payne street near Cameron street. Lieut. Smith put Officer Ticer under arrest and the mayor, having given an imme- diate hearing, released him on £2,000 bail, with Wm. P. Wools as surety. This morning Pyne lies dying at his home, the ball having entered his brain. Coroner Purvis is sick and there has been some delay in the holding of the inquest upon the body of Lee. PYNE STILL ALIVE. 2:15 p. m.—Doctors O'Brien and Ashby made an autopsy on the body of Lee this morning and found the ball in his backbone. An inquest wili be held tomorrow. July 5.—At Garland City. on the Cotton Belt Railway, 20 miles eastof here, a bloody double tragedy occurred yester- day. Ed, Brennan and a number of men were talking just outside of Brennan's home. A dis- ute arose between Brennan and a man named rnard. Brennan was stabbed through the body by his antagonist and he drew his pistol to shoot Bernard. when a third man, name not known, interfered as peacemuker and was try- ing to get possession of the pistol. Lovisvittz, July 5.—About 8 o'clock last evening the northbound express on the Louis- ville Southern railway struck a wagon con- taining twenty-one persons returning from a oon at the Preston street road crossing, just eyond the city limits. Curcaco, July 5.—While returning on a Santa Fe train yesterday afternoon from a pic- nie at Columbia Park Frank Lutgon, who was partly intoxicated, became involved in a quar- rel with David Welsh, a saloon keeper, during which Lutgen was shot through the stomac and almost instantly killed. Welsh jumped from the train and escaped arrest. Almost a Fatality. Barrie Creek, Micu., July 5—A steamer dock at Goguac lake resort gave way yester- day afternoon just asa crowd of thirty per- sons were about to board the boat. Twenty persons were precipitated into the water, which was several feet deep. A baby was crushed in the crowd under water and may die. Three ladies were held under the water by the strug- gling crowd and were saved with great difi- culty. Bostox, July 5.—At 9o'clock last evening a lighted lamp in the hallway of Mra. Catherine Waters’ residence, 41 Webber street, Roxbury, exploded, inflicting injuries on Mra. Waters, aged forty-five, and her sister, Miss Susan Garvin, aged forty. Their cries for help sum- moned assistance, to A were found lying on the stairs in an unconscious condition and with their clothing entirely burned from their bodies. The wife refused to return and live with her husband aud took rooms at the Western Hotel, Petillot called at the hotel and sent a messenger to call his wife.
