The brazilian minister has engaged quarters for his family and secretary at Orkney Springs for the season. The Senate finance committee had hoped to have the tariff bill ready to report before the end of this week, but the indications now are that the bill will not be ready to return to the Senate before the beginning or middle of next week, The republican members of the com- mittee have turned over to the democrats several of the schedules, and all the important items in the bill will be passed before the end of the week, A CIGAR Puorest. Cheyenne Indians Kill Ranchmen Who Took From Them Stolen Meat. Frank 8. Carson, a settler on the border of the Tongue River reservation, has arrived at Miles City with a detailed story of the at- tempted wholesale killing by a band of North Cheyennes. One night a short time since about twenty savages stole irom the rauch of James 8. Ferguson 3,000 or 4,000 pounds of beef and were carrying it away, when their thett was discovered by one of Ferguson's cowboys. who gave the alarm. Ranchman Fer- guson and about forty of his men gave chase and recovered the meat, ‘Three or four days later Ferguson and six of his meu left the ranch with a couple of teams 4 did not return until late in the night.
