A Day of Receptions—Personal Notes of Interest. ‘The roll of many carriages resounded throngh the avenues yesterday afternoon during the calling hours and hoste of ladies and a few men were out paying Visits to the ladies of the Su- preme Court Mrs. Fuller, wife of the Chief Justice, re- ceived her callers in her cordial manner and introduced each visitor to Miss Mildred Fuller, the fifth daughter of the Chief Justice, and who is this season a debutante in society. Mra, Faller was dressed in a gown of black silk with @ jabot of black and white silk lace down the front of it. Miss Mildred. who finished her college days at Wellesley last year most credit- ably, 1s above the mediam height in stature, the lines of her figure are softly | lowing curves and ber complexion is of the blonde type. The iden hair lay in curls all over the shapely [oa and wes qetheced inion kook ak the beck, The debutante dress was of a soft wool material im an exquisite shade of mauve that was very becoming to the young beanty. The sleeves and some of the folds in the skirt were of watered silk in mauve, and the rolling collar at the neck was of the mauve moire, and she wore satin slippers in the same color. Miss Mildred is an excellent equestrienne and, like her father, she enjoys long walks, Mra. Miller was unable by reason of a cold to see callers, as she had promised her friends she would do, but the house was open to callers, They werecharmingly received by Miss Luey Corkhill on bebali ot her grandmother. Miss Corkhill had with her Miss Squire. Miss Corkhill wore s toiletof green India silk and eli of bronze leather, and Miss Squire was in wn cloth and silk. Mra. Field. Mrs. Condit Smith and the Misses Condit Smith received calls on Capitol Hill, and Mrs. Harlan, in Mt. Pleasant, received many calls, Mrs. Wanamaker, in a carriage dress of dark cloth that had a front of silver gray plush and a dark bonuet, and also Mrs. O. H. Ernst, wife of Maj. Ernst, the new commissioner of public buildings and grounds, and her daughters, Miss Elizabeth Lu Ernst and Mises Helen Amory Ernst, were making calls yesterday. Mrs. E. J. Halford with Mrs, W. F. Mattingly were paying their zespects to the ladies of the court. I have fre- quently recommended this use of newspapers, but I find that practi very few people really appreciate its value. The International American Congress. The Pan-American congress Yesterday ad- journed until Friday, when it is expected that Secretary Blaine will announce the committees and the congress will then adjourn over the holidays. Yesterday Justice L. L O'Neill tried a suit brought by Virgie Varney against Messrs, Roop & Nopper, an action of debt for $40. Gen. E. Cc Conrington appeared for “the charming yooal queen,” as she is styled in the bills, and Mr. * Stone Abert for the Proprietors of the Globe theater. The plaintiff claimed that she contracted with the defendants for #20 per week for two weeks, beginning December 2, and that last Friday mght she was discharged, as she claimed, because she refused to remain after the performance in the wine room.
