LAWLESS LOUISIA What Mr. G. Wilkowski Says of the Persecution of His Brother. This afternoon a Stan reporter saw Mr. G. Wilkowski of this city and asked him about the anti-Hebrew movement iit northeastern Louis- jana, by which it is reported his brother, Mr. Simon Wilkowski, a Hebrew merchant, and the most prominent man in West Carrol parish, has been such a sufferer, He said: “My brother is a wealthy man, a leading re- publican and a member of the state legislature. He has large business intorests in the neig) borhood, for at the close of the war he loaned a great deal of money to farmers to enable them to begin their business once more, Y these marauders gave him until the Ist of Janu- ary to leave the country. His manager, book Keeper and clerks have been killed and himself has had a number of very neuer escapes. This is the third outbreak of this nature which has occurred in that part of the state in a short time. From what I have heard from there recently I judge that it is not so much a move- ment against the Hebrews as it a revolt of the remnants of Quantrell’s old regiment against all law and order. My brother has been fore- most in denouncing all outrages that have been committed upon the negroes in that locality and asa result has incurred the enmity of all these lawless citizens. It is also believed in the south that money subscribed by Hebrews was tromental in electing President Harrison and as all Hebrews around there are republi- cans this has largely increased the troubles.” When asked by the reporter what steps they had takea to defend themselves Mr. Wilkows! said: “My brother writes that he and a number of others have joined issue, are fully armed and will make a determined resistance. There is a strong feeling among the better class of people against the outrage, but no one seems disposed to interfere with the mob.” —— Transfers of Real Estate.
