Washington plays in Baltimore next Monday and Tuesday. The Detroit base ball association has filed a formal application for membership in the American association. There were 518 games played in the leagye this year against 515 last year, ‘The great questions now agitating the cranks are: Will the Browns catch the Bridegrooms. and will the colonels ever win another game? Milligan won the game for St. Louis yester- day. He made two home-run hits and brought in five out of the seven runs. Clements got the record of the season for consecutive hitting. He made nine hits in suc- cession, Should the brotherhood form a base ball league it is estimated that it wiil take $250,000 to start them in business. —Ezchange. Well, they won't need any money under that Promise, for they will not form a league. Hoosier Captain Jack Glasscock comes out with the following: “I am not an officer in the brotherhood, and do not care much about itanyway. As long aslama member of the organization I will abide by its decrees and follow its instructions, if I think they are right; otherwise I would not. Butso far as the much- talked-of brotherhood agreement is concerucd, Isay that no one has ever asked me to sign it, and, so far as ] know no one else has ever seeu such a document.—Inquirer. The excitement over the coming series be- twém the New York and the Association cham- pious—prospectively—the Brooklyns, is already at fever heat. Several bets were made in up- town resorts yesterday at the odds of 100 to 50 on the New Yorks. Strange to say, in many places in Brooklyn the same odds are offered on Byrne's men. This isa queer state of af- fairs and goes to show that in their blind | sori ship each side has lost the grip on its etter judgment. It is too early to make bets as yet, and cranks will do well to keep their pocket books closed until the day of the first ttle.— New York World. John Montgomery Ward stopped off in this city yesterday afternoon on his way to New fork. He has been in Bellefonte visiting hia relatives since Sunday. He denies point blank the story that appeared in the New York Herala of yesterday, saying that it was without founda- tiou i fact. “Ihave not been in New York,” said the shortstop, “since the league season and I could not, nor have I seen Mr. Day to make any statement.” he asked about the brotherhood scheme he sai: there was no truth in the When it comes time speak,” he fore. Everything else is premature. There is anvther thing I wish to correct. It has been reported that the brotherhood has been impor- tuning Latham and King to join them. This is not 80. an account for it in only one way. Latham wrote to me asking me a question. I did not recognize the signature and I wrote back asking if it was Aclie who was seeking in- formation. He replied that it was the Only Original Artie. I have since learued that he showed my signature iu the letter to son n id current reports. for the players to id, “they will do so and not be- out west and from this sprang the report. What he wanted to know was in no way con- nected with the brotherhood.” Ward's opinion on the world series is that if they have Erookivn to play they will win six out of the first nine games played. He left on the 6 o'clock train last night to join the team today.— Phila. Times, The association clubs stand as follows: Por Eansas City.. Louisville. In the second division were Mecca temple of New York and Pyramid temple of Bridgeport, Conn. ‘The third division consisted of Tulu temple of Philadelphia, the fourth of Boumi temple of Baltimore and Saladin temple of Grand Rapids, Mich., the fifth of Acea temple of Richmond and Osiris temple of West Virginia and the sixth ofn ers of Isis temple of Salina, Kan., Ab- dailah temple of Leavenworth, Oriental temple of Troy. The members of Osman temple of St. Paul carried with them the blanket or strong canvas sheet with rope handles, which it is said the nobles used in their initian ceremonies. At points on the route they varied the monotony of the march by tossing in the blanket the colored boys who crowded about them. The boys thus tossed were consoled with gifts of bocksheesh. Some of the shriners carried peacock feathers, Occa- sionally an officer bore instead of a baton a toy balloon secured to the end of a switch and the members of one temple were provided with jumping jacks, which they put through move- ments, keeping time wi the music as they marched along. ———— HE GOT THROUGH ALIVE.
