Tue Baptist Cuvrc —The Baptist congre- gation of this city held its annual meeting at the church last night and was occupied with the details of church business. The Baptists held their first meetings here in 1794, and court records contain the order that “leave is granted to the Baptist society to preach at the court house, Alexander Smith engaging to repair any damage to the house in consequence thereof.” This court house was the one erected in 1788 west of Alexandria Washington Lodge hall. The previous floods cost the Richmond, Va., water department over $1,000. The damage done them was repaired, but the new work was easily swept away by the recent flood in the James and the city will have to repair the same ata heavy loss. The water supply is now in- adequate, but only the steam pumps can work, and it may be that before the damage can be repaired the city will suffer for water, One Killed, Fourteen Severely Injured. A southbound Deleware and Hudson through train ran through an open switch atthe Ken- wood Junction, near Albany, N. Y., yesterday afternoon, and into the northbound West Shore train, due at Albany at 4:30. The draw- ing-room car Argyle and two passenger coaches of the Delaware and Hudson train were thrown from the track. Thomas Conniffe, a passenger on the West Shore train, residing in Albany, was killed, There were about thirty ee on the Delaware and Hudson train, and their escape from death is marvelous, as the two cars turned completely over on their sides and the inmates had to be taken out through the windows.
