He Buys the Residence of Judge Wylie on Thomas Circle for $100,000. Chief Justice Fuller has secured a permanent | home in this city. He has purchased the large double residence of ex-Judge Andrew Wylie, of the District Court, which is located on the northeast side of Thomas Circle. The Chief Justice has been occupying the residence of A. L. Barbour on Columbia Heights at the head of ith street. He found this location made too long a walk for him from the capitol. and | he has been looking about for some time for a | | house. Nearly every house that was available | was too smail for the use of his family or else | the location did not suit. He finds that the residence of Judge Wylie is well adapted for his use and will take possession of it next fall. That amount had been heretofore found due on account of money expended by the state in furnishing supplies to the troops engaged in local defense for the common cause of independence in 1777. The money was not nid to the state, however, but was passed to Ber credit om the books of’ the treasury as an offset toa portion of the “direct tax” with which she was charged, The court held that as the state of Georgia had never assumed the direct tax, there was no obligation on her part to pay the same. and | that therefore the offset had been wrongfully | made.
