After the reception in the Equitable building, with which the Star's account closed yesterday, President Harrison sat down to an elaborate banquet. Among those present were all the members of Presi dent Harrison's cabinet except Secretary Blaine, who was confined to his home in Wash- ington by illness, Mr. Blaine was represented by his son, Walker Blaine. The governors of all the states except those of Minnesota, Mary- land, New Jersey, and West Virginia were also resent, besides ex-Judge Pierrepont and judges Daly and Peabody, Wm. Turnbull, Dr. Stuyvesant P. Morris, Senator Evarts, Theodore Roosevelt, Major Doubleday, Gen. McChurch, Maj. H. Fairbairn, Gen. Brush, Henry C. Bowen, editor of the Independent; H. F. Bonner, Rev. Dr. Chapin, Gen. Barnum, Gen. C. C. Suydam, Gen. Fitzhugh Lee, ex-Gov. Price, of New Jersey; Joseph H. Choate, Cornelius’ N. Bliss, and many others. Mayor Grant and Gov. Hill sat on either side of the President. Cov- ers were laid for fifty guests. ; When the party were seated, Wm. G. Hamil- ton, the great grandson of Alexander Hami'- ton, presented souvenirs in a brief address to President Harrison, closing with a request thut all drink to the memory of George Washington, the father of his country. The souvenir con- sisted of six beautifully engraved car’, tied with yellow and blue ribbons. On the first one was an embossed picture of Washington him- self, on the second an engraving showing his landing in New York in 1789, on the thirda picture of St. Paul's chapel in 1789, portraits of Bishop Provost, Chancellor Livingstone, and the various members of the legislature.’ The fourth page had an engraving of Federal hall and the statistics of the period; the fifth page had portraits of President Harrison, Governors Clinton and Hill. Mayor Duane and Mayor Grant. The sixth page bears an engraving of Equitable building and Washington's house in Cherry street, as well as the menu of the luncheon. Ouly a few times did the President violate the rule against handshaking. The first ocea- sion was when a white-haired veteran, wearing the uniform of the Grand Army, uncovered his head and extended his hand. Some personal frieuds came later and were also favored with a haudshak: WELCOMED BY SCHOOL CHILDREN. ‘The President then went to the city hall, where two hundred school girls strewed his path with flowers as he ascended the stairs and passed through the rotunda. Arrived at the top of the stairs President Harrison was tendered an address of welcome, delivered by Miss Annie A. Abrahams, at the conclusion of which he given a monster bouquet of La France roses, President Har- rison, arm in arm with Mayor Grant, Governor Hiil, with Hon. Hamilton Fish, Vice-President Morton and Commodore Gerry, and three members of the plan and scope committee, then entered the city hall. ‘The distinguished party were escorted to the governor's room, where ‘the President began receiving the visitors.
