Steven- son forfeited 25 collateral in the Police Court this morning for permitting a lame horse to be worked to an express wagon.—Patrick Horn, the owner of a sore-backed horse, forfeited a similar amount on a ope of cruelty. The driver of the animal, a colored boy, attempted to drive out of sight when he saw Agent Key, but the latter was too quick for him and caught him before be could get away. Henry Douglass, a colored boy, who lives in Anacos: was charged with cruelty to animals in breaking a dog’s leg. As the witnesses were not present the case was continued until to-, morrow. ————_ Orricer Datey Acgurrrep.—Special Officer Jacob Daley, colored, was acquitted in the Police Court thjg morning of a charge of as- saulting a colored woman named Polly William- son. The woman, who caused the trouble, said that she took the ofticer for a “night doctor” or a man was trying to catch her for a “night doctor.” The judge told her that her thoughts got her in the trouble and ac- quitted Daley. Harrison yesterday in behalf of Powell Clayton for a cabinet position. He had just received a message confirming the news of the assazsination of John Clayton, and, accord- ing to the Tribune special, as soon as the talk turned to Arkansas politics the Arkansan, with tears glistening in his eyes, read the news to the general. “That is dreadful,” exclaimed the President- elect. “Such things must be stopped. I have heard of nothing so shocking since Garfield's assassination. That crime will be a disastrous one to Arkansas and its future prosperity. It is terrible, terrible.
