Advance in the Price of Bread. A NUMBER OF BAKERS Lf THE CITY RAE THEIR PRICES ONE CENT PRS LOAP—TEEY THINK THR OTHERS WILL BE FORCED TO DO $0—JOURNEYMEN BAKERS FAVOR THE ADVAXCE. Bread advanced 1 cent a loaf this morning. Some of the bakers met with complaints and protests from thetr customers on their rounds, but this was anticipated. In fact, it was thought by many of the bakers that their customers would refuse to take the bread on account of the advance, but @ Prominent baker told a Stax reporter to-day that his supply ran shor. “I made a mistake in not Daking the usual batch,” he said, “but I thought that as the advance would only be carried into ef- fect by some of the bakers that my customers Would go to the cheaper men. This did not prove w be the case.” He added that the other bakers Who had not advanced their price would be com- lied to do so a8 soon as their present stock of F became exhausted, Only two of the largest bakers in the city are ‘selling to-day at the old prices, ‘There are a number of the smaller estab- ents Where the advance has not yet been made, It is estimated that there are some bakers who advanced their prices to-day. The Dakers have no organization, abd this movement 1s not the result of any united action. ‘THE JOURNEYMEN BAKERS have an organization, and they are in favor of the advance. They are now working twelve hours a day instead of eighteen, and their wages are from $13 to $23 per week. ‘They are afraid that unless the price of bread 1s raised thelr Wages will be re- duced or their hours tucreased. Anton Kaspar, a member of the union, sald t0 a Saw reporter thiat the advance in flour had been from $2 to $2.25 per barrel, and that employers who pay fair w: make honest b.ead und wish to live cannot sel bread at the oid rates. He claims that only about 250 loaves can be made from a barrel of flour, and after all expenses are made the profit to the Daker Js only a Just and a reasonable one, ——ne A Fraud on the Bees, APIARISTS ASK LEGISLATION REQUIRING ARTIFICIAL WONRY TO BE LASELED. Mr. James P.
