The solemn quiet of St, Matthew's church, where ‘the remains of Gen, Sheridan Lie in state, remained unbroken during the hours of the night save by the tread of the military guard. The guard of honor of the Loyal Legion shared with the soldiers the duties of the all-night vigil, and whem tho morning came the reliefs arrived and the guard for another day was set, The church doors, however, were thrown wide open and the attend- ants at the early mass found the priests in their Places and the services going on as usual, The somber garb of the church and the presence of the coffined dead were tife solemn reminders that dis- Unguished the early mass of this morning trom that which ts celebrated each day. ‘4 REQUIEM MASS THIS MORNING. At 8 o'clock a requiem mass was celebrated, which was attended mainly by the relatives and the friends of the deceased, and was held at the juest of Mrs. Sheridan, The congregation was by General and Mrs. Rucker, Colonel Sueridaa and other members of the family, Fatuer Ker- vick officiated, and the music was furnished by the junior choir of the church.
