THLAGRAMS 10 THB STAR ‘Went Insane on Her Wedding Tour. SAD PATE OF CTIFUL MEMPHIS GIRL. Sr. Lois, June 18—A special to the Globe-Dem- ecrat from Memphis says: The bridal tour of Mr. 1H. M. Jones and bis bride, formerly Miss Frankie Jounson, enied with overwhelming misforcune Je leaks out to-day that the bride has lost ber reason, and that she will be placed tn an asylum im Pufadeiphia at once. She ts about twenty- eight years of age, the daughter of John Jonnson, formerly mayor of Memphis and at present a lea ing Gaancier of this city. Juno-like in form and carriage, she bad been a reigning Delle, noted for Ler profound common sense as weil as her beauty. Mr. Jones, Who is prestient of the First National Bank and of the gas company, lost his first wite About two years ago, and as soon as the pe Fiod of mourning had passed began paying assid- Yous court to Miss Jounson, With whose father he had been intimately aswclated in business, a Who is understood to have been strongly tn favor Of the marriage from the beginning. The fact that Mir. Jones Was So much older than Miss Johnson ‘ecasioued quite a Butter in society when their eu- gagement Was announced, and the wedding abo three weeks ayo was quite an event. It was a gor- geous affair, and there were few, if any, among the who stopped to inquire whether of not the bride might not nave preierred a younger band. There ig much spectiation now, however, 0p tis bead Killed Himself Before His Sick Wife. SHE AYTERWAKD ATTEMPTS 10 ComMIT SUICIDE WITH THE SAME PISTOL Lovisviuu, KY., June 1X—Jacob Doll, who has Conducted a grocery business here for Mfteen years, Shot himself dead Saturday in the presence of bis wire. Both have been in fatiing health for som ‘me. This morning Doll asked his wife how she Was, and she said sue felt auch worse. He said he was feeling very badis, too, and did not want to live. He procured a pistol from # bureau and seated himself by his wife's bed. She begged him not to kill hinseif, but ber instead, Without answering he placed the weapon to his temple and Bred, ‘The shot produced instant death. Mr Doil later tried to kil! herself with the same p: Doll was worth $15,000. Nocause but despoudency is known. ata ‘THE EMPEROR DIED OF CANCER. A Sensational Report that the Legality A post-mortem examination of the body of the je Emperor Frederick was made at the Fried- hskron palace, at Potsdam, on Saturday, by or- der of Emperor William Profs. Virchow, Wa Geyer, ani Bergmann were present. The Dowager Empress Victoria was opposed to the autopsy. The examination proved the existence of cancer. Dr. Mackenzie's friends state that he concurred in the holding of the post-mortem. They also say that he knew the character of the disease from an early period, but took the best course possible ‘with the patient. It tg stated at Boston that the new emperor will make a full declaration of his policy in an address to the people, to be Issued on Tuesda: re ‘stag Will be summoned to meet ou June 25 ton ceive the message, and shortly afterward the em- peror will formally take the oath of the coustitu- on before the landtag. Speculation has been al- Teady busy regarding the tenor of the emperor's Address to the people. OMiclally nothing ts known of its character. ‘The Impression in the ministerial circle 1s that the address will be brief; that it wlil Be explicit upon the emperor's desire to maintain peace, and guarded upon the subject of the rela- Tons betweea crown and people. The remains of Emperor Frederick were placed $n a coffin to-night and cartied to the catafalque Which bad been erected In the Jasper gailery. ‘The Coffin ty identical with the oue in which Emperor ‘William was buried. Count von Moltke visited the mortuary chamber this afternoom, Later he was Feceived vy the linperial family. A SENSATIONAL REPORT. ‘The New York World's cable special from Berlin on Sunday contained the following sensational matter: “An extraordinary rumor 1s current in the city. It appears that, notwithstanding the urg entreaties and protests of the widowed empress That no autopsy should be performed on the body Of the dead monarch, the new emperor, disregard- Ang the appeals of his mother, caused a post- Mortem examination to be mad= this afternoon, ‘The widow's feelings were additionally outraged Dy the fact that Prof. von Bergmann, the very surgeon who had been forced by her to withdraw frow actendance on the late emperor, was called Upon to perform It. The post-mortem lias reve.sled tue tact so long denied by Sir Moreli Mackenzie and other surgeons, namely, that the malady with Which the late emperor was afflicted was cancer in its most malignant and incurable form. This Detng the case, ror Frederick Was debarred by certain clauses In the Prussian constitution concerning princes afficted with incurable mala- dies from succeeding to the throne, and according to the letter of the law his accessiob Was an illegal act. The rumor which is now current ts to te effect that in view of the above fact, not only the legality of certain acts of the late empeoror are ‘about to be called into question, but that even the Fank and position of bis widow as dowager are seriously compromised, especially as regards her appauages and Uue. “While itis almost impossible to believe that ‘the new emperor's dislike for bis mother will lead him to the perpetration of so tucredivie an act, Jet there ts no doubt that the untruthful denial of the existence of canrer at the Ume of Frederick's accession in Maren last enabled him to become emperor and bis wife empress in direct defiance of ‘the terms of the constitution. Some appearance (Of truth is lent to the rumor by Kaiser Wilhelm’s Unnatural conduct in insisting on the autopsy in of is mother's entreaties, and the fact F 3 Ubat even Sir Morell Mackenzie now ad- mits that the malady from Which Frederick died ‘Was cance Dr.Mackenzle 1s not well, having been exhausted by his constant attendance upon the emperor. Emperor William and Prince Bismarck have re- Quested him to draw up a medical report of the ase. ide will spend three weeks in Norway before returning to Londoa CANCER OF TUR LARYNX. A later dispatch from Berlin says: The post- mortem examination of the emperor was confined to a dissection of the neck; laryax and lungs Ip ‘the larynx, Which was found to have been de- stroyeu by suppuration, was a cavity about the sizeof aclencued fst. ‘br. Mackenzie states, In the report which he prepared at the commauu of Emperor William, that the disease was, beyond Goubt, cancer of ihe laryux. He adds that the Giaguosts Was readered Very diMicuit, as the dis- ease attacked the carUlage Of the larynx at the Outset, aud afterward developed cliely in the lower part of the cartilage. The National Zetung says that the autopsy Wed that the laryax Was completely destroyed F cancer, aud that putrid bronchilis existed. ‘There Was also inflammation of the finer rami- Sications of the broncuial tubes, tnto which puires- cent particles bad entered. The whole larynx was ina state of suppuration, and presented a soft, lumpy mass, Witu scarcely ' Lrace of cartilaginous: structure remaining. There Was nothing to show the existence uf perforation of the wails separat- img the (rachea and sophagus ‘Ihe cuoking Sefsation from Which the emperor suffered during ‘he last days of his iil, Which was attributed wo ‘such a perforation, appears to bave, been really due Ww collapse of the iarynx, owing Wo tue destruction of the cartilege. The direct cause of death is given, ‘Ss paruiyais ct the lungs. ‘Ihe post-mortem ex- amizativn occupied one hour. eee Geuing Heady tor War.
