An interesting feature of the centennial meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, which 1s now in session in Philadelphia, Will be the presentation of sketches of the history and growth of the various synods, presbyteries and churches. These histories have been prepared im compitance wita a resolution adopted at the yast meeting of the General Assembly. The Pres- bytery of Washington city, through a committee consisting of Revs. J. E Nourse, B. F. Bittinger, D-D., and John Chester, D.D., has prepared a v full and complete historical account of the growth ¢ Fresbyterisnism iu the District of Columbia. Balen, journeying from bis church in ‘town to found that of Frederick and otners, and Breckenridge, crossing from Cs Bladensburg, and the devout elders who funds for the First Presbyterian of 178, must have Known something of frontier travei.” The oldest church in this vicinity was the Old Patuxent or Upper Marlborough church, which Was represented in 1704 in the synod of Puiladel- c ata.
