A Public Meeting Heid Last Evening— A New Citizenw Association 10 be Formed. A number of West Washington business men met last night at Association Hall to discuss the ‘subject of tunnelling Rock Creek and the George- town Barge, Dock, Railway, and Elevator Com- pany. S.C. Palmer was chosen chairman, and W. H. Manogue, secretary. Mr. John T. Mitchell Was called upon to state the object of the meeting, and spoke of the organization formed some time since to cooperate with the District Com- mittee of One Hundred in alding the Com- missioners, as he supposed, in carrying out all measures beneficial to’ the District, but finding that Georgetown interests were not con- sider by that committee West Washington withdrew. Mr. Mitchell, im conclusion, said That Georgetown could, With {ts representative business men to speak for it, do better with Con- Kress and the Commissioners than before. He, therefore, urged ‘am onganization of business mes to assume charge of Geo wn affairs and to represent the tuteresis of West Washington. THE WEALTH OFFICER TO ABATE A NUISANCE AND ‘COLLECT THE CosT BY SUIT. ‘The heaith oMicer, under the advice of the attor- ney of the District, 1s about to enforce an order to abate a nuisance under the provisions of section 26 of the health ordinance. This section provides that in case a notice sent by the health officer directing the abatement of a nuisance is ignored, the health officer sball take the proper sieps to abate the nuisance, aud in case the property owner does not within ten days pay the costs the amount shall be recovered by a suit at law. ‘The case ih question fs that of a collection of stagnant water on lots 2 and 3, square 06, between 4th and Sth and K and |. streets northeast. The prop- erty belongs to Mrs, Eliza Patterson, who resides in Asheville, N.C. ‘The complaints’ against the nulsance are of long standing, and at the health office it is stated ail the usual means to compel the abatement of the nuisance have been taken without avail. ‘The matter has been in the hands of the attorney for the District, who advises pro- ceeding under the section referred to. Mr. Campbell Carrington, who 1s assoclated with Mr. T. F. Miller for the defense, made a motion for a continuance to the next term.
