WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT A REPORTED MISUNDER- STANDING BETWEEN THEM. A Washington special, published in New York, States that the publication of a bulletin on dairy Products by Prof. Wiley, of the division of chemis- try, Agricultural Department, had given great offense {to Dr. Thos. Taylor, the microscopist of the Department, because, as the latter complained, {t infringed upon his special domain of work, It was also stated that as the microscopical division had thoroughly handled the subject, and had pub- lished reports covering the entire ground, the is the Wiley bulletin was unnecessary and gant; that for additional scientific ma- engravings, &c., the cost of the bulletin reached about $100,000. A STaR reporter cailed at the Agricultural De partinent to-day to learn the facts. Prof. Wiley and Dr. Taylor were fortunately found in the same room, “Prof. Wiley said the statement that he had assatied Dr. Taylor either through the press or private correspondence, or in conversation, was unqualitledly false;” that he had not assalled him tn any manner, and that before publishing his bulletin he submitted it to Dr. Taylor. ‘On his behalf, Dr. Taylor admitted that he was annoyed at Ue appearance of the bulletin, and that in a privateletter he did say it would be'more creditable to Prof. Wiley to stick to his own busi- ness, and that the billletin was of no special Yalue, because Prof. Wiley had not given the study tothe subject that was necessary to make him an quthority upon it. 48 to the cost of the bulletin, they both agreed that tt did not exceed $1,000; that not a dollars worth of additional mach{nery or new implements was purchased for that pur- pose. pa aees ‘The Bui ig Regulations, A NUMBER OF PERSONS BEFORE THR POLICE COURT CHARGED WITH FAILING TO OBSERVE THEM.
