In the Criminal Court, Judge Montgomery, yes- terday afternoon, the trial of Geo. Holmes, col- ored, for the murder of David H. Banks, a white man, on January 23 last, by striking him with a club, was coucluded with a verdict of guilty of manslaughter. After THE Stan's report closed testimony was given fo sow that Holmes was of unsound mind. In rebuttal the Governinent called Dr. Godding, Who testified that he belteved Holines Was respon- sible for bis acts. The case was argued by the distriet attorney and Mr. J. W. Walker, and was kiven to the Jury about 4:30 o'clock. ‘They agreed in fifteen minutes, and the verdict was taken be- fore 5 o'clock. Holmes, who 18 a black man, 65 years old, when the 'verdtet was announced, trembled, laboring apparently under great excite: ment, and fell Into his chair almost helpless. He Was under the misapprehension tat he would be hanged.
