FEBRUARY 28, 1887-SUPPLEMENT. Confessing a Horrible Murder. ‘THE PHILADELPHIA POLICE CLEAR UF THE MYSTERY OF THE MUTILATED BODY. Chief of Detectives Kelly, of Philadelphia, has ascertained that the mutilated body found near Eddington was that of Wakefteld Gains, colored, and that he was murdered at 1642 Richards street Philadelphia, by Georg e Wilson or Wallace. has arrested Wilson, and obtained a confession from Mrs Tabbs, who says that on Wednesday morning, February 16, between nine and ten tork, Gains and Wallace both called on her at her hotise, 1642 Kichards street. They were sit- Ung in the kitenen when Wallace said he was eetuing fn again on Sunday and going to bring her ttle girl in from Jenkintown and take her out riding. Gains sald to Mrs. Tabbs, “Is he with herr” Mrs Tabbs replied that she did joW, and with that Gains fumped up and struck Geo, Wilson. A struggle ensued, and Wilson felled Gains With a chair, aiterwards Striking him with the chair, as he lay on the Noor, until life was ex- tinct. Wilson took the body into the cellar, stripped it and left the house, returning in about twenty minutes with a butelier's cleaver, which he used to mutilate the body, while Mrs. Tabbs kept watch on the floor above. Then Wilson wrapped up the body, and Mrs. ‘Tabbs agreed to take It nto the country in ac- cordance with a suggestion from Wilson. ‘This ‘Was about 12 o'clock, and Wilson went away. At So'clock he came back and brought the body up from the cellar. Wilson returned into the cellar and brought up one of the legs wrapped up in an Gia bag that he brought with bim and took 1t out. After ie Was gone Mrs. Tabbs started out to the Aepot and took the 6:20 train to Eddington, Ar- rived at Eddington, Mrs. Tabbs started up the hill apd made her way to the bridge and there threw Ule body over into the water. Two men came along ina buggy at that Ume, and Mrs, Tabbs ran up close to the bushes until they drove past. Then she walked back to Cornwell's and got on the ‘ain after 9 o'clock. “She did not throw Gains’ clotues into the water for fear Gains’ name might Deon them. AN OLD MAN'S FATAL GRIEF FOK WIS DAUGHTERS “He died of a broken heart,” was what one of ‘the mourners said who stood by the death-bed of Dr. L. S. Batley, whose death took place last Fri- day night in Forsyth county, Ga. Dr. Bailey's death was brought about by-grlef over the cruel Tourder of his daughters, Mrs. Ella Beck and Miss Addie Batley, in Rabun’ county two years ago. Eugene Beck had married Miss Ella Batley, a beau- Uful girl, against the will of her father. ‘The couple removed to Clayton, where the groom had a large amount of property.
