Summing Up in the Emmons Case. Mr. Kent concluded his closing argument in the Emmons lunacy proceedings this morning. The court room was well filled, there being a number of women present. Mrs. Emmons did not attend. Before proceeding with his argument Mr. Kent ex- pregsed his regret that he had not, in closing bis case, the co-operation of his associate, Mr. Wood- bury Blair, who was compelled to absent himself on account of the death of his mother. Mr. Kent also spoke of a newspaper account of what passed between himself aud Mr. Robinson yesterday when he had defended the reputation of ‘a lady whohad been referred to in testimony. Newspapers, he said, generally, to make things int >) gave theth a sensational coloring, more or less. He sald he made no threat to Mr. Robinson, and certainly did not intend that his manner should be threaten- ing. He intended no insult to Mr, Robinson, Mr. Kent then went on with his argument. EFFECT OF THE JURY'S VERDICT. After the recess, when the jury reassembled, Mr. Davis, of the jury, asked some questions re- garding the effect of the jury’s verdict in case they found Mrs. Emmons not sane. Mr. Garnett explained the proceedings that would be taken, saying that the committee to be appointed by the chancellor would have absolute control over Mrs. Emmons. Mr. Kent sald the committee would have legal custody of Mrs. Emmons, subject to the control of the chancellor. After some discussion of the law between coun- sel, the jury at half-past two o'clock retired from the court room to consider the case, District in Congress.
