Fortunately there were but few pas- se and but one lady in the Gaithersburg u Immediately after the collision the car Was filled with steam and sprinkled with broken glass, kerosene, and blood from the injured pas- Sengers, one or two of whom had their heads pretty badiy cut, many of the seats being torn their fastenings. Immediately after the collision two men in blue overalls, supposed to be the engineer and fire- man, rushed. through the car, unheeding the appeals of the lady, who, somewhat bruised, re os arena ae as oe with the aid of a fentleman.” ‘The conductor and brakeman were th hurt, the former seriously. After some delay the lady recovered her hat, cloak, um- brelia, and baggage, which had been left in the car, ahd was compelled to walk two miles back to Forest Glen, and returned to the city on a west- bound train, which had to return and go by the mn stem. The conductor of this train was — to collect her round-trip ticket to Rock- ville. The collision is said to have occurred from the fallure of the air-brakes on the express, which had fortunately stopped at the moment of the collt- sion. The track was net cleared until late at night, the evening ngers having to be trans- ferred around it. The in-coming trains were also more than an hour late tls morning. ‘Washington, D.
