In this conven- ton it was} ed three years later to commem- orate the discovery of Coliimbus by an exposition which would show the resources and wealth of the entire continent, Which he had discovered. This would require the erection of lage ‘buildings for the accommodation of such exhihits, and it was to ask Congress for the use of the large act of land near the Washington monument where these buildings could be erected. It was be- lieved that this city had superior facilities for holding such a celebration, and there was no doubt ‘that it would receive the endorsement of Congress.
