Persons Shot. A JEALOUS HUSEAND'S RAGE RESULTS US SOME LIVELY PISTOL PRACTICE. While several hundred persons were about entering the main entrance of the Lyceum theater, on Despiaines street, ip Chicago, Mon- well known to the police, drew a 38-ealiber re- volver and discharged it four times. The fol- lowing named persons fell to the sidewalk, in- jared badiys Checkley. sixteen vears ‘old, living at No. 64 Meridian street; Daniel Wilson, twenty-two years_old, living at No. 63 Madison street; George McCobel, twenty-two ears old, living at No. 6 Madison street, and leury Wilson, twenty-seven years old. living ‘at Meridian aud Desplaines streets. Walsh him- Seif was also shot in the left breast and ts per- Bape fatally injured. _ Never since the memor- able Haymarket riot was there such consterna- Yion in that district. The shooting occurred ‘within a block of the Haymarket, and many thought that it wasa second massacre, The injured were attended by Dr. Bousman and then removed tothe hospital, ‘Their wounds are not considered fatal. CAUSE OF THE SHOOTING. Waush lives with his wite in a tenement on Desplaines street, and around that district re- sidea hard crowd. A man whose name Walsh would not give, but whom he is supposed to have wounded by a shot, has been paying at. tentions to Mrs. Walsh, uten against her hus- band’s wishes. On returning from work Monday evening Walsh foun known man tn the front room with chatting. | He tn- stantly set upon his wife and broke her jaw in two places by akick. He then turned ‘on the destroyer of his happiness and, drawing re- Volver, shot at him. The fellow ran down stairs ‘with Walsh in ‘pursuit. When the side- walk was reached Walsh opened fire on the fleeing man. Blood tracks indicate that he struck him PURSUIT OF THE SHOOTER, A crowd trom the theater started in pur suit of Walsh. He turned and discharged a volley into them, as already related. Someone in the crowd also drew a pistol and shot Walsh im the left breast. Y. World trom Providence, November 22, says: “Doc” Wilson is on the warpath. Instead of sitting down and growing round shouldered under the weight of the $96,000 verdict that was given against him Jast week, he proposes to try and make it very lively for Philip 1. Moen. Wilson determined to-day to bring a charge of perjury against Mr. Moen, and he goes to Boston to-morrow 10 en- deaver to have Moen arrested on that eharge, Meanwhile the effort to secnre a new trial is to be continued. Wilson to-day received a tele- ram from Lawyer O'Loughlin, of Boston, say- jug that he had secured the stenographie min- Utes Of the last trial, aud bad. pr filed bis exeeptions. ‘When the Hi poudent saw Wilson this eve he was in @ Vigorous frame of mind. “Yes, sir,” he said, in Tesponre to interrogatories, “I im going’ to prosecute Philip L. Moen tor perjury, and he is joing to be convicted, toa, Why, ior that mat pared and rid corres r, he is already" convicted. He went on’ the stand in this last trial and swore fo an exactly opposite set of alleged facts to what ue testified to on the tormer tal. Jt was wot until this triai that he ever said a Word about blackmail. I ai no blackmailer and novody knows that better thau Philip L, Moen. That man has wrouged me, sir—wronged deeply and although with his wealth he has bought up newspapers to abuse me, and bought up jurymen to decide against me, i will yet demanstrate to the World the kind of a man is. A blackmaile un I? Why does he not rosecute the blacktailer, then, and thus rid self of me? He says I "wrote lim a black mailing letter. Why didu’t he have me arrested, on thai? That letter is a base forgery, aud I Will prove it to be so on tis bext Wial.” They did not give me a chance to do soon the last Wial. The charge of torgery will also be in eluded in the presentation I'shali make to the United States commissioner im asking for his arrest. 1a) Fest until I have got trom this man what is my due.” Counsellor George J. West, who conducted Wilson's case, when asked whether he thought perjury couid'be proven against Mr. Moen, sald: ‘Without a doubt itean be. Why, Mr. Moen and bis lawyers admit that he bus perjured himself. On tue stand, when I taxed him with rearing differently trom what he had done on the first ‘trial, he admitted it and sald, when @eked why, that he did it for reasons best known to bimselt.” ——+e-___.
