Wilson, the commissioner of pub- lic buildings and grounds, Is making improve- ments on that part of tue muil which adjoins the western boundary of the B. & P. R. R. com- pany’syard. Col. Wilson suid to a STAR reporter to-day “The object of the commission in building the mound is to hide the grimy-looking yurd of the railroad company from the vlewof sightseers on the mall.” The material for this improvement is supplies free of charge to the government, 1. Wilson having stipulated In his contract with the contractor who is grading the ground arout d the new Pension office, that all earth removed therefrom should ve deposited at that place. When the embankment has reached the desired height It will be graded into a gently sloping incline, and, after being sown With grass seed, the summit will be lined with quick-zrowing trees, thus more effectually ac- complishing the purpose. THE STORAGE OF O11. ‘The District Commissioners have extended the time granted the Nicola! brotners tomake a statement regarding their occupancy, as it is claimed, of the ‘public street on Mary- jand avenue until the 16th instant. The building inspector aud fire marshal have been directed to make an examination of the Messrs. Nicolai’s establishment, where it is Stated oil is stored in larger quantities than the law permits. The firm named established an oil storing depot there, It is stated at the Districi building, without ‘the authority of the Commissioneis. The law pro- hibits the storing in any one place inside the District of more Uhan ten barrels or 500 gallon: of combustible oils, This law, Col. Ludlow thinks, is not up to the times, and the Commis- sioners will recommend to Congress new lexis- lation on the subject. Colonel Ludiow tuinks it better to accumulate dangerous oils in one sult- able place than to have the oil scatiered in small lots throughout the city. The Commis- sioners will ask Congress to give them author- ity to muke regulations regarding such storage. LIQUOR LICENSES have been issued to John T.
