THE JACKSON @ Annual Meeting of the Stockholders— Proposed Improvements ef the Grounds—A Blue Monday Amoug the Tenters. Correspondence of THE EVENING STAR. Jackson Grove, Mp., August 3. Yesterday was blue Monday on the camp sround, and as the dwellers in the tents did not seem disposed to come out, the usual experi ence meeting at 9 o'clock was not held. At 10% o'clock Rev, C. N. Robinson preached. OFFICERS CHOSEN. ‘The afternoon was devold of incident until 4 o'clock, when the annual meeting of the stock- holders was held. Mr. W. J.C. Dulany, pres i- dent of the association, presided, with Rev. J. D. Kinzer secretary. Aiter reading the report the following directors were elected: W. J. C. vulany, Rey. Dr. Drinkbouse, Rev. J. D. Kin- ver, Rev. BF. T. Tagg, Horace Burroughs and W, 4. Silk, of Baltimore; Rev. 5, B. Treadway, of east Wushingtog: J.D. Catheil and Jos. Fear- n, of West Washington. The question of im- proving the. grounds, disposing of the timber, eu, Was discussed, and it was suggested that of the large pines in’ the plaza should removed. It isnot unlikely that some meat “ill be adopted by the new board to make the nds still more attractive during the coming Fr. Prior to this meeting a service of song was id at the labernacle, led by Kev, C. N. Robin- nd in the evening Rev. Dr.Mills preached. NEW ARRIVALS, During the day Rev. T. T. Benson, of Mt. Tabor, West Washington; Rev. B. S. Kingley, of Leipsic, Del., and Rev. Mr. Elderdice, ar cived on the ground. Mrs. E. Parsons, of Wash- ington, took “up quarters last evening for the remainder of the meeting. Last eveuing the corps of colored waiters went to the railroad form and gave a fine concert of the peculiar spiritual songs of their race, keeping many of (ne tenters euter‘ained till a late hour. EVIDENCES OF REFORM. ‘The question of what good has been done by the camp has been asked frequently In the past, and has been more than once asked at this meeting. One of the residents seeking information had his attention called to the tact that seven years ago drunken men were tre- quently seen on the grounds, especially on Suu- sand on Monday mornings a plentiful sup- ply ot empty liquor boities and flasks could ve found in the woods or about the depot. ‘This condition of affairs has gradually euanged, and AU this meeting not a single dranken man has been seen, and’ it has been difficult to find a bottle. The tew weeks’ recreation this season has proven very beneficial to grown perso aud children, for quite a number were alc! when they arrived. In every case there has been an linprovement, and tue two physicians camped on the ground have bad but little to do in the way of protessional work. DOGS ANDCATS. ‘One annoyance im the camp 1s caused by half starved dogs prowling about the back of the tents at night, “seeking whom they may de- your.” A lady missed a ham afew nights ago and it was thonght some thieves were around, but when it was observed that “a long, lean, lank yalier county dog, uppeured to have had enough to eat he was charged with the thert. What was an annoyance once—a crowing young rooster, which was want to wake the Sleepers at Unree o’ciock in the morning—is now no iofe, much to the sausiuction of some of the preachers who lodged in his neighborhood Minus his feathers the rooster has graced the table and will never again bring to. mind Peter's deniai of the Saviour. So general bad become the complunt against this ambitious Young bird that it was seriously thought ne Suould be included in the category or im- pounded animals. A lady Ou the ground has a cat and five duuginters, but the former gives her more touble than all the latter with their beaux Included, The cat is proue to wnuder to other tents, and a few days aso it made for Brother Pulley’s parrot and there came near being a repetition of the story of the parrot and the monkey. The cat has come near getting into a conflict with Brother Cuthell’s dog several times. Tiere was @ novelty on tue ground last evening, when ¢blidrens’ pound or ive cent purty was given. Some of the little ones trom necessity or other: wise showed that they could cater for a church entertainment by using four lemons to five quarts of water in making the lemonade. | ‘Tomorrow being temperance day quite a | iday will be missionary day aie eas Washington Grove Items. The event of the week so far has been the lec: | tare of Col, Geo. W. Bain last evening at the | tabernacle. Flags, bouquets of ferns and wild flowers and W. C. T. For the Wealth of the south like the wealth of all Ue otuer sections has its foundation in the bone aud sinew of its laborers. 1 accept the oillee to which you have elected me and will do what I ean to promote the object you have in View as I understand it.” gee The Will of David Davis.
