Were They Placed There te Be Killed? Early yesterday morning, as Captain Price’s train,on the Washington and Ohio railroad, was on the up trip, the engineer and fireman Church, something moving on the track, and blew the alarm whistle. Running the train nearly halt a mile further, it was discovered that there were two little colored children on the track, neither of them three years of age, and each quietly munching some bread. An attempt was made to reverse the engine, and the speed of the train was slackened while the fireman rushed out to the pilot of the engine the children from the track. The ngers ip- | were all looking out, and were horrified to see the two children straightened out on the trestle Work Just before the engine passed over them, Tue engine was stopped as soon as possible, and the conductor and others, who expected to see {wo mangied corpses, were surprised to see one of the children crawling out from under the wheels, and the. other was pulled from under the luau. ‘having been damaged only by a scratch on the nose from the pllot, Tio ehil- dren were token to Falls Church, and subse- ently a colored woman called and claimed them, but retused togive any name. From the fact that the place where the affair occurred was reached by trestle work, with a high bank on one side and a stream on’the other, the train men and others came to the conclusion that the children could not have wandered there, and that they must have been put om the track to be Killed by the train. gh Peter Zingerle and His Pistol.
