Yesterday afternoon when the jury in the five cases consolidated against John Hitz, form- erly president,and Charles E. Prentiss, formerly cashier of the German-American National bank, charged with making false entries in the books ot the bank in 1878, had been out about two hours, no word having been received from them arrangements were made for accomodat- | ing the jury during the night, and the court di- | rected ihat i they agreed Betore 9 o'clock the | conrt be notified. He has admitted that | he was civen a portion of the money taken from the victim. Although the aniount of money—about thirty doliars—he acknowledges he received 1s about the sum that he was found to have spent in the few days between the date of tue murder and his capture, Detectives Ratt and do not eredit mplices. With a view Nardello the information as, & consultation has been arranged by Iberto de Foresta, secre- tary of the Ttalian legation; Rev.
