THE MAN WHO SHAVED THE PRESIDENT LAST SUNDAY AMONG THEM. Three more barbers—John W. Dabney, Aug. Sauer and Aug. Mentereaux—who kept their places open on Sunday, were brought before the Police Court this morning and charged with violating the Sunday law. Mrs. Marilla Ricker appeared for Mentereaux, and Mr. Corkhill for the others. Mrs. Ricker said that her client kept his shop open because he had read in a paper that the police would not interfere with Them for so doing. Mr. Corkhill sii that his clients represented thousands of dollars of property and it was a reat Inconvenience to them to be arrested and prought before the court while other cases are pending, because, he said, they would abide the decision of the court. They had not yet decided in what way they would test the iaw, but he Was inclined to think they would take the de- cision of this court. His clients, he sald, were not violators of the law. One of them shaved the President last Sunday. By an agreement between’ counsel the case was continued until next Thursday for argu- ment. Mr, Corkhill asked that his clients be protec ted from arrest in the future until the law is decided. ‘Mr. Padgett said he conld not assure any such thing, as citizens had a right to obtain warrants fromthe magistrates, which they had no au- Ahority to stop, and such being the case, they would be arrested every Sunday they’ kept open. peeeee ie ees The Odd Fellows’ Auntversary.
