He ts oon made to feel the fron hand of fate as he attempts to take charge of the domestic affairs himself. His meals do hot taste right; his coffee is poor, his bread like dough his cakes half done, his meats burned to a crisp, his linen without that snow-white gloss that good soap ale ways gives it ‘The man of the house becomes gloomy ‘and morose, and the pleasant house he once had 1s changed for the worse. At last he sees his mistake, and the thrifty wife again takes charge, and uses care that he gets the best, and the best only, and the home is once more happy. Snow-white linen again adorns the house, and the secret is given to the husband. French Villa Soap has worked the cbange, and not only that, but the happy wife hasbeen made happier still by receiving as a reward one of the handsome prizes which are distributed among the users of the how famous French Villa. How the manufa:turers can afford to give away gratuitously such hand- some and costly presents with this excellent re- solvent, which i worth more money than is paid for it, is beyond her comprehension. The secret {9 soon told. The presents given away in thelr next grand distribution in October next are worth over $125,000. Of course, in giving away this large amount of money in presents they have a two- fold object in view. Knowing that it was neces sary to have the many excellent qualities of French Villa brought to the attention of the public, they de- cided to spend a large amountof money in introducing it, trusting that the large future gules of the soap will, when it becomes better known, amply repay them. It ‘would require a large sum of money to properly intro- duce it, and in order to accomplish the same purpose in @ novel way they decided to give their patrons the benefit of the money which would otherwise be spent in advertising, and devised this method of having their patrons and friends herald its qualities, thus accom- pilshing ® two-fold purpose—in making known its ‘good qualities and rewarding those who use it. No matter what inducements are offered for the in- troduction of an article, ifit is not up to. or above the standard, Its new-made friends drop off and become its enemies, This is not so with French Villa, Ite quality is not deteriorated te cover the expensesof the grand distribations, but itis of the same quality as it will be when they discontinue the giving of pres- ents to its consumers, ‘The {dea In placing French Villa in the market is with a view of making it the best and cheapest soap offered, trusting that by ite good quality a lasting reputation will be made, which will result in a large and well-paying business, A.glance at the list of handsome and valuable pres ents will convince you that you can easily have the value of your money returned to you iu the way of a Present, the soap practically costing you nothing, Even those who use but @ small amount have a chance to receive something handsome, as the pres- ents are distributed without favor to those holding the targest amount of wrappers, the distribution not being in any way a case of chance. Iam now 49 years old, and have suffered for the Jast 15 years with a lung trouble. I have spent thou- ‘sand of dollars to arrest the march of this disease; but temporary relief was all that I obtained. I was unfit forany manual labor for several years. A friend strongly recommended the use of Swift’s Specific (S. ‘3. 8.),claiming that he himself had been greatly bene- fited by its use in some lung troubles. I resolved to try it. ‘The results are remarkable. My cough has left me, my strength has returned, and I weigh 60 pounds more than I ever didin my life. It has been three years since I stopped the use of the medicine, but I ‘have hadno return of the disease, and there areno pains ‘oF weakness felt in my lungs I do the hardest kind of mechanical work, and feel as wel: as [ever felt since Iwasa boy. These, I know, are wonderful statements to make, but am honest when I say that Iowe my existence and health today to 8.8.8 I would be Tecreant to the duty I owe to humanity if I fallod to bear this cheerful testimony to the merits of this wonderful medicine, ‘TJ. The House education committee had a fight over the educational bill this morning. The bill was opposed vigorously by Representatives Miller, Burnes and Strait, and defended by Mr. ‘Willis, Only nine members were present when the first vote was taken. This vote stood 5 to 4 to report the bill to the House. After the vote was en two members entered the room, and @ motion was made to reconsider the vote. On the 2th, however, the conditions were changed and the tugs'Hartley and Lewis would have been employed by the District had it not een found on inquiry that they were alread: engaged in the service of breaking ice.
