THE MAJORITY OF THE VESTRY AGAIN DE- CLARE THAT THE PASTOR OUGHT TO VACATE. PROBABILITY THAT THE QUESTION WILL BE DECIDED AT THE EASTER ELECTION. The meeting of the vestry of Ascenston church was occupied again last evening with the consideration of the questions arising from the request of the majority of the vestry for the resignation of the rector. After some dis- cussion a resolution, offered by the majority, was adopted. It declares: “That aithough not presuming to sit In_judg- ment on the restor’s opinions I ‘regurd to iis moral duty and responsibilities in the premises the vestry does yet hereby protest and declare that the contindance of the present rector of this parish in this charge Is fn law, as It to be, exclusively within the Judgment and at the Will and pleasure of the Vestry, and that upon the expression of such judgment, will and pleasure it is the legal duty, as in the. Interest ofdignity and Christian harmony it ought to be, deemed the moral obligation of the rector to vacate his suid charge.” Mr. A. J. Falls. who voted with the majority on the otigiual resolution, voted with the minority on this question, Messrs, Corcoran and McCammon were absent, so that the reso- lution was adopted by a vote of four to two, a5 follows: Yeas—Messrs. Burchell, Davis, Dan- canson and Garnett, Nays: Messrs, Falls and Pratt. In case the rector does not consider the resig- nation of his place as a “moral obligation” the entire matter will probably be deferred until the meeting of the congregation at Easter, when the question will be presented for deci- sion, There isno farther talk of closing the church.
