Ifso, be can- not complain that his suggestions have failed to excite discussion. The proposal for an Irish parliament has been the one topic of debate ever since It appeared. And in many unsus- pected quarters it finds encouragement and support. It is manifest that public opinion is auch more liberal towards the Irish than it has ever been before, and it will not be surprising 3€ Mr. Gladstone should feel himself justified in undertaking the program which his friends have fathered upon him. —<$<<—— A distressing rumor comes from New York that ex-Minister Astor wrote his novel by “collaboration;” in other words, that he hired two young novelists to write it for him. This is bard on the young novelists. If Mr. Astor really did pay to have his book written he can mow complete his literary success by paying people to read it.
