Dr. Ludwick von Dolke was on trial in the Police Court this morning, charged with as- saulting an old lady named Mary Welsh. Mr. ‘Thomas appeared for the prosecution and Mr. Walter for the defense. The old lady testified that on the 27th of last month, while standing in the street waiting for a car, at the corner of ‘9th and F streets northwest. the doctor's horse —— on her foot. Commissioner, Mills who com- mitted him to jail in default of $1,000 bail for ain appearance today. “Mr. Merrill the super- intendent of the division, noticed that the fig- ures on his books had been changed, and ascer- taining that there was a shortage ‘of $10 he accused Baker, who admitted his guilt. He explained that’ having been obliged to borrow money he had fullen into the hands of a man named Eastwood, who charged him ten per cent per month. As East became tmpor- tunate and threatening, and he feared that he would lose his positiom he took the money on the 24th, and changed the figures hoping that he would not be detected till he had made the amount good. Baker was a native of this city, and resided on G street, near 13th.
